gift help (updated)

Hi I could use your help!! My nephew called me last night and wants me to take him to the store to help him pick out a gift for his girlfriend. What do you think is appropriate gift to give a 12 yr old girl?

Is a teddy bear and a little necklace ok? All suggestions would be great, we are probably going to go to target to shop.



UPDATE:

So i took him to the store and we ended up with a cute little silver necklace with 2 hearts, and a heart shapped box of candy with hershey kisses inside

I personally think 12 yr olds are grown out of teddy bears. Than again every child is different on the mental age growth.
The necklace sounded like a nice idea - maybe you can find a nice jewelry box and place it inside - it might be a nice surprise.

i thought the same thing about the teddy bear, but that was one of my nephews idea, so i didnt want him to think it was a bad ideak KWIM, maybe he'll change his mind when we get to the store

I am afraid to even suggest this but I loved those silly makeup kits when I was that age. What about a bunch of nail polish in a basket?

Girls love this stuff. Even her favorite music cd to go along with the beauty items.

My step sister is 12 and she asked me to get her some lipglosses from Victorias Secret. Might not be a good idea from a bf who is 12 but is an idea?...

Or I would say some type of inexpensive jewelry

I think you can say nicely, 'you know, when I was 12, I was into makeup and music, kinda out of the teddy bear stage. Does she have any still? Are they just for decoration, or does she still like to play with them?' Maybe it will make him think of what she's really into?? A teddy bear that is romantic is one thing, but they are 12 - she is not going to be getting a teddy bear that says I love you on it, right??

I think a jewelry box is a great ideas, as is shiny lip glosses, a cd, a pair of cute earrings or a necklace (ask him what she wears - maybe a chunky beaded one? or even a thin beaded one, they are very cute) ... slippers maybe? I would stay away from PJs, that might be miscontrued by the parents. a nice picture frame is a good idea - maybe he has a cute picture of the two of them to put in it? That and a pair of earrings would be a nice gift IMO.
