gifts for your wedding!

I know this is a very taboo topic, but were you surprised, overwhelmed or disappointed by some of the gifts you received?

Please don't quote me since I may delete.

We had about 10 people give no gift at all. We expected it from a few of them.

Some people were SO generous and I wish I could find a way to show how much we appreciate it!

Re: gifts for your wedding!

I hear ya! On the whole We were overwhelmed with how generous people were. I can honestly say most of our 'surprises' were positive ones.

Re: gifts for your wedding!

I had about 7 no gifters at this point. We received about 5 post-wedding gifts. We had some generous gifters and we were really surprised by a few - in a good way.

From the non-gifters, at this point, I'm just mad no card was given. Like you don't know you should bring a card to wish them well?

Re: gifts for your wedding!

I'm still waiting for a GIFT/CARD from my MAID OF HONOR! Then again I shouldn't be surprised because I didn't even get a call or card for my birthday, nor did she pay me for the dress since I put out the money while she was living overseas, nor did she pay my other BM's for the b-party.........

Yep exactly the no card situation. We got some post wedding gifts...and still a few no gifters. Still waiting for one from one of my BM who said shortly after the wedding she still has it...but umm....

Some people were super generous...but many did not give great gifts for 2 people.

Re: gifts for your wedding!

im over the non-gifters who should have atleast brought a card but my 2 moh didnt even pay their share for hair which was 50 (i was willing to pay half and noone paid their half) but they didnt give a gift either. I bought the dress for my girls and try to make it easy. One came in from out of town and did buy me a shower gift as well just not a wedding gift. My other MOH ever said she would buy me a gift (still didnt pay her part of the hair) and instead went skydiving while telling me money is tight. So I actually wound up giving my 1 moh the gift instead of the other way around.

Re: gifts for your wedding!

There were good surprises and there were bad surprises...We had a couple of no gifters but some extremely generous gifters as well.

I think the worst was a GM whose date flaked at the last minute (they were rocky and we asked him a bunch of times if she was actually going to show). Anyway, so we paid for her plate, somebody we never had met and didn't even want to come AND he didn't give us a gift.

One of the best surprise was a cousin of mine who I really don't see much at ALL and haven't seen since HER wedding a couple of years ago. Well, she and her husband couldn't make it because they had just had a baby but sent a $500 check. That was sooo beyond generous and I was so touched.

Re: gifts for your wedding!

We were pleasantly surprised by how generous everyone was! Except for a few family members that we were shocked by, and one BM.

We had a few non-gifters that we were very shocked by, though.

Re: gifts for your wedding!

We received some very generous gifts that were amazing, and had a few non-gifters. But all of our non-gifters have now 'gifted' One non-gifter was DH's friend and his wife - I was so annoyed but not surprised that they non-gifted us (a couple of months before the wedding they also 'forgot' to pay us for tix we bought to a show that were over $100). DH saw his friend a couple of weeks after the wedding and somehow (I'm not quite sure), wound up with the friend writing us a check. Another was a BM who wound up buying us a gift from our registry - but we had already received the same thing, (which she knew ) so we returned it and got a credit and BBB which will definitely come in handy when we move in a couple of months.

Re: gifts for your wedding!

The biggest shock was my extended family. They all gave me checks, which on the west coast is unheard of! They came all the way to NY and still gave us money, so nice! Another shock was my brother, he didn't even give me a card. HE did however pay for my hotel room the night before the wedding so he felt he did good by me. I can't be mad at him, but his wife should have bought a card! We had a few non-gifters but only one that urked us! DH's step sister wrote her name on his fathers card, and brought a date who was not invited! Oh and BIL got married last weekend and she begged to bring a date to only cancel two days before the wedding! So bad! I finally called his father out on it, and he said he didn't know about the card!

Re: gifts for your wedding!

We had FOUR people come who were family members and give us a joint gift, it was a plastic picture frame and it was $9.99, I know this bc the amount was written on the back in the corner of the box.

I don't know what they were thinking or how they thought this was appropriate

I had someone not from NY do that too. Got me a set of glasses (that we did not register for) and two dish towels.

Re: gifts for your wedding!

WOW! I have to say ladies, I actually felt better reading about some of your situations!! I am sorry to say that but at least we can find comfort that it's nothing personal haha! I have come to realize during this whole process that people are just crazy.

I had 2 bridesmaids who I thought were 2 of my closest friends that gave ridiculous gifts. One was a personalized christmas ornament that you can buy in the mall (with the price tag on the back that said 15.99) and the other was a dog clock and coasters. I thought that they were joke/keepsake gifts that maybe went along with a 'real' gift. I was very hurt by this. I wasn't expecting huge gifts from them but come on. I feel like I spent so much money on them and went out of my way to make sure that things weren't too expensive and to be accommodating and that's what I got in return.

A bunch of DH's relatives came without a gift or a card! I agree, you could at least write a really thoughtful card.
