It's nothing major but cant stop thinking about it. As you know I like to run and my goal this year is to run a full marathon, hopefully the NYC marathon. That has been a dream of mine for a long time.
Ok so last year I applied to the lottery to get in NYC marathon and was not accepted - I also applied as a charity runner for 2 different organizations and wasnt accepted. As you can tell it is very competitive to get into this race.
So this year I did the same thing - applied to the lottery and same 2 charities. I wont find out until beginning of June if I get accepted. If I get accepted to a charity I have to raise $3000. Fine I can do that - they are for good causes, cancer research. I lost my g-ma to cancer and also DH's father has kidney cancer.
Here is the dilemma - today a collegue tells me about a charity he just applied for and got accepted already. It's a first come first serve basis and I spoke to the lady and she said if I apply I am in. If I wait till June I may not get in. The charity is to support wounded war vets, which is a great cause. I just feel bad about my other options which are still pending and not sure what to do? DH says wait till June but I really dont want to mess up my chances for getting in this race this year.

I wouldn't wait. But, then again from experience I did the Breast cancer 3 day and to raise 2500 it was not easy. You would be surprised how cheap ppl can be. So, the earlier you start raising money the better. Send out letters to family members, try to get a party/happy hour together, put a jar outside your desk at work for ppl to drop coins in.

I know its going to be a long hall, however my people in my department are pretty generous and we have a matching gift program here. Last year I raised money for a charity I ran for and raised $800 no sweat (with the matching gift) - that was with none of my friends donating and very little family. So I am ok with the $3K but just dont know what to do about the charity dilemma?

are you a part of the runners club? My friend is and she did a bunch of 5k's and she said that automatically put her in the NYC marathon.

I dont know too much about marathons but if you think you have a chance of doing the one that you really want, I would wait for it since it has sentimental value to you. The other one is a great cause and you can dedicate your run to the people close to you that were affected, even if you are raising money for a different cause.

I think you should wait it out? I don't have experience with this but if the run is the charity of your choice, I would wait... But it's totally up to you in the end!
