girls that are house hunting...

Original post by agraydc

i cant believe with the market the way it is people are still asking ridiculous amounts of money for some crappy houses.......

has this been your experience too or is it just DH and I???

we looked at this one house the entire house was crooked....it was higher in the middle and sloped down to each side and the woman who owned said its 'no big deal just cosmetic stuff'

hello!!!!! that is not cosmetic!!!!!! that is a major structural problem!!!

Just got back from a house! OMG! What a disapointment! This lady had 15 cats and everything was scratched up, the upstairs looks like it hasnt even been entered in 20 years, it smells, the ceilings are damaged, leaks, mold, no closets, tiny windows! Downstairs, ugh...she turned the back part of the garage into a bedroom.....smells like gasoline..I have no idea why. The cabinets are glued carelessly to the wall and the floors are all torn. THe outside of the house is pristine though...what a shame. THey wont come down even 10 k off the asking price. What are people thinking????????????????????????????????????????????//

I noticed that the prices have come definitely, BUT not nearly as much as they should for some of the homes that are on sale now.
I think Nicole has a point when she said that people with the great homes are holding onto them.

I'm totally frustrated. I refuse to live paycheck to paycheck just to own a house on LI.

I've had that experience, but not with houses - with CARS! Dealerships obviously charge way too much, but so do random people selling from their houses. It was such a headache shopping for my perfect vehicle. There was one that I fell in love with, but the freak selling it wanted WAY too much! It's not even new - a '97 Rodeo. Sure, it's in good condition, but they were asking for more than I would have to pay for a MUCH younger car. So we told him that we'd take it if they drop the price by a grand. He agreed and it's now mine - the greatest car ever. lol. I love it to death. But were they kidding me??? With things the way they are, what kind of person is going to buy an 'older' car for such a high price??? I think they realized how absurd they were

I think the sellers forget that the potential buyers don't have sentiments to the house like they do. I'm not paying for other people sentiments. And if the seller brought in '05 and needs to sell now... that's their problem not mine.

And if suffolk county is east bumfuck... then I need an
'i <3 east bumfuck'
t-shirt.

Anyway, I hate the houses on the market. Even if its cosmetic... like wood paneling. Don't tell me it's an easy fix tell your seller.
