... and at the bottom, it said 'No boxed gifts please.'
Um ...
Did anyone else's invites say this? Just curious.

Re: Got an invite to a wedding yesterday ...
Thanks everyone - for a minute I thought maybe this was a 'thing' and I just didn't know it. Good to know I am not cracking up and that this is totally inappropriate for a wedding invitation!

We got one gift from a very good high school friend in a giant, gorgeous hat box -- it was actually a beautiful wooden salad bowl with great serverware wrapped in a lovely scarf!
I really love it. So personal and wonderful!
Those friends of yours are missing out!

I'm with you! I didn't receive too many non-monetary items but what I received I loved and was generous!

We got this on an invitation. It was to a close friend's sister's wedding. It was an Indian wedding, I don't know if it's cultural???? I had heard of it being done but had never seen it. I was pretty surprised but thought hey maybe it's cultural.

How do I put this without seeming like an insensitive a-hole ... there is nothing 'cultural' about this couple!
I've gotten those before. For some reason I think it's rude. But at the same time...I'd never give anything but $ anyway.

Re: Got an invite to a wedding yesterday ...
I'd so want to be tempted to wrap a $1.00 bill in a box & attach a small gift tag. Then a month later mail them the real gift card - just let them steam over it like you did when they sent this a$$enine invite...lol

Re: Got an invite to a wedding yesterday ...
OMG Seriously!?!?!!!!!!!!!
We had some guests bring gifts but one of them was my favorite gift out of ALL the gifts I got, she had a artist draw in the sand our names with starfish.... Its in our bedroom and we adore it..
I would now be a b*tch and give a GIFT CARD and put it into a GIFT CARD BOX and thats it. Like to BBB or something. Cause I'm sorry, thats rude without an explanation and to put on to the invite?
Like, Okay- I had some 'gifts' disapear from the hall too- But i would have NEVER imagined writing on my WEDDING INVITE 'Envelopes only Please, We want money'

Re: Got an invite to a wedding yesterday ...
Honestly--I hate when people do this because most people know at this point that cash is what people prefer as a gift.
That being said, my aunt gave me a 40 lb espresso machine that I was carrying around while saying good night to my guests...

it kind of is cultural, im from pakistan, i did not write that on my inviation, but i have received plenty of INDIAN invitations, that have said No boxed gifts at the bottom, not because they want $ necessarily, but because the couple will usually end up living with their INLAWS (because unfortunately in Indian culture/custom) this STILL does happen...and then the couple will really have NO WHERE to put all those gifts they receive..theyre already going to be moving in to a ready made house aka their inlaws!
I know it sounds rude, but whatever works...usually in their circle of friends its understandable and no one takes offense because they know the rationale behind it. But i can understand where all the other posts are coming from..it does tend to sound rude..like ok ur asking for $ ?! ...
