Got an invite to a wedding yesterday ...

Original post by julesrbf

... and at the bottom, it said 'No boxed gifts please.'

Um ...

Did anyone else's invites say this? Just curious.

For someone who is expecting gifts, I wouldn't bring one at all. I'd send it in the mail a few weeks later. Give her some time to believe she wasn't getting anything. I don't like people who expect things. Yes, it's the right thing to do, but don't expect gifts.

wow....people sometimes forget weddings are weddings and not fundraisers

I never gave a non-cash gift in my life to a wedding...but I might have to change that out of spite in this case.....

wow

How 'tacky'! I received one gift from my registry and I thought 'Wow have they been to a formal wedding?!' I then thought 'ok they didn't make it bridal shower!' and they still gave us a hefty envelope! LOL

But to write that on the invitation

I love it! I always reference lines I use with my students for every situation, and my husband is starting to say, 'Listen, I am not one of your seventh graders!' It doesn't make him feel any better when I say I use the same lines with my seniors.

if i were you i would do it anyways! LOL

i would put a check in a huge box just to say that was a bit much putting that on an invite!

Just saw this post, LMAO. That's tacky beyond belief, not to mention presumptuous. You know someone won't be able to help themselves and will bring the biggest box they can find.

Wow. The nerve! How can someone say that?!

And by the way- I would put the card in a box just to piss her off. LOL.

You MUST wrap money in a box...

Most people will just read that invite, be appalled and never say anything to the couple. By giving them the money in a wrapped box, you're making a joke of it but also subtly saying 'hey @ssholes, you have MAJOR cojones for writing something that!!'

So weird! I never heard of that! They should put their programs in their bank's 'Deposit envelopes' hahaha to get the checks ready.

We got this on an invitation. It was to a close friend's sister's wedding. It was an Indian wedding, I don't know if it's cultural???? I had heard of it being done but had never seen it. I was pretty surprised but thought hey maybe it's cultural.

it kind of is cultural, im from pakistan, i did not write that on my inviation, but i have received plenty of INDIAN invitations, that have said No boxed gifts at the bottom, not because they want $ necessarily, but because the couple will usually end up living with their INLAWS (because unfortunately in Indian culture/custom) this STILL does happen...and then the couple will really have NO WHERE to put all those gifts they receive..theyre already going to be moving in to a ready made house aka their inlaws!

I know it sounds rude, but whatever works...usually in their circle of friends its understandable and no one takes offense because they know the rationale behind it. But i can understand where all the other posts are coming from..it does tend to sound rude..like ok ur asking for $ ?! ...

Thanks for this info!! I definitely did not know the background at all.

Honestly--I hate when people do this because most people know at this point that cash is what people prefer as a gift.

That being said, my aunt gave me a 40 lb espresso machine that I was carrying around while saying good night to my guests...

Am I related to this Aunt
