Got my diamond wedding band...and more...

After so much trouble and emotions going into this, I finally picked up my diamond band tonight from my mother. My grandmother had given me her diamond wedding band, which had 7 small diamonds in it set in platinum. She told me if I didn't like the setting, I could change it. I didn't like the setting.

So the day after she went into the hospital where it was discovered that she has cancer, I went to NJ to get my wedding rings. I wanted the stones set in a new setting before my wedding, so that my grandmother could see it (I didn't know she was in the hospital until the car ride home). They screwed it up twice, and I wasn't able to have the ring for my wedding, which really upset me.

I felt bad that I got my grandfather's wedding ring and my grandmother's diamond wedding ring and my sister didn't get anything that sentimental, so I took 5 of the diamonds out of the setting and left 2 in there and my mother had emeralds set in the remaining spaces.

Tonight, my sister and I got our rings. The diamonds don't go all the way across the width of my finger (almost), but are the same exact width as my e-ring. My sister loves her ring. And I have it in time to go see Grandma on Thursday.

And...then I came home, and had a message that the video from our ceremony is ready to be picked up. I was thinking about it on the car ride home from my parents' and was planning on calling tomorrow to find out what was taking so long for them to get us less than an hour of raw footage and was planning on telling them I need it before Thursday. Now I don't have to, and Grandma can see what she heard!

I'm happy, although it's bittersweet, and I feel like there's a reason why all of this is coming together now...I know this will probably be the last time I see my grandma, and things are falling into place because they're supposed to.

Re: Got my diamond wedding band...and more...

That's wonderful how everything is working out.

We are going through something similar re: the video situation.

Our wedding was on Dec 28th 2003, and our videographer is really backed up.
Well, at our reception, my DH's step father gave such a wonderful, touching speech. Not a dry eye in the house! He was diagnosed with cancer, and he will be here in NY next week. We've been trying to get this video for quite some time...now that he will be here for a visit, our videographer is going to see that we get this video for him to see, this may also be the last time we see him as well...and he keeps asking about the video, he wants to see his speech. Now it will happen.

Kathy, that's great that you'll be able to get it in time! It was wonderful that my grandmother was able to hear the ceremony, but it's just not the same as seeing it!

My thoughts are with your family!

Re: Got my diamond wedding band...and more...

I know this is a hard time, I lost my grandmother during my engagement. She was almost 64 and was my mother in every sense. I got to take her to Flowerfield to show her around, it was one of the last times she walked. I thought she was meant to see it.

It is so terrific that you can share these special things with her. It will be a cherished time. My thoughts are with you and your grandma.
