I posted this info on earlier on this board, but you should go to DMV and SS office call the locations first to confirm what you need to bring, the one in the city, I just needed my marriage cert, license (if you have a car you need to change the name on the title) and I also brought my old SS card. Thats first, then you inform your job so they can update their payroll info, then the next thing would be your Bank accounts - usually they only need to see your marriage cert, temp. new license (after you go to DMV) then you can change your passport and credit cards.... I'm working on my bank and passport and credit cards at the moment.

passport - http://travel.state.gov/passport/fri_name.html
(I would do this task last. for the above tasks you'll have to show them your marriage certificate.) You'll have to mail your passport along with your marriage certificate. if you're a lil apprehensive about mailing your cert (dun worry cuz my hub and i were also), you could go back to where you orginally signed up for your marrage license and request for another valid copy. think the fee may be $10 - not sure. also, when mailing in your application, passport and marriage cert have the post office put in an official request for a confirmation reply.

I just changed my name on the bank accounts, and I got my new license in the mail. Wow, it's official. Next is my credit cards and I'll wait to change my passport until the end. The whole process so far hasn't been to bad.
