Re: half sister vs step sister...?
AND BTW I STAND CORRECTED.The law recognizes no distinction between blood or adoption. If your mother and father adopted, he or she is your brother/sister. (A 'half ' is if you and he/her share one parent in common only. A 'step brother' is if you share no parent in common, but each of you has a parent who then marry each other.)

Re: half sister vs step sister...?
I agree she 'technically' is your half sister.I totally agree with the other poster who said all of her siblining where her brothers and sisters.
Even mom stepdaughter refer to my daughter as their sister. It's all about the love

Re: half sister vs step sister...?
half sister.technically if you were having to explain it to a doctor or for genealogical reasons .. (did i spell that correctly?) then she's your half sister by adoption.
but she isn't a step-sibling in any way.
a step-sibling means already existent from a previous marriage with no relation to your parent. half sibling is the result of previous or new marriage with one of your parents being one OF their parents.
phewwwwwwwwww.

Re: half sister vs step sister...?
If she is your adopted sister and not your dad's biological daughter, she is your adopted sister
Or to be nice, just sister. I think that Half-sister would mean that she is your dad's biological, but not your mom's. Step sister would mean that your dad's new wife already had a child before she married your father.

Re: half sister vs step sister...?
I do not call my uncles, half uncles or step uncles. They are my uncles, same with my cousins, they are not step nor half.About 6 yrs ago, I found out my mother had a son when she was very young, and had the father's grandparents raise him. We found each other on the internet. Even though we did not grow up together, I call him my brother.
As for medical forms, then you can explain you have X amount of siblings, but one is adopted. You can also say X amount of sibling from mom and dad, and X amount from dad.

I dont understand why you would have to write that 1 is adopted???
DH is adopted and he never wrote 'adopted mother or adopted father' - its always mother and father. If it comes down to family history for medical reasons only then should they say adopted and only if you dont know the medical history of the biological parents.
