Hand Gestures

Ok, so I was driving to work this morning and I cut someone off. (I've felt bad about it all morning). I don't know if she was going faster then I thought or if my car just didn't move as quickly as I wanted it to. But, after I cut her off she honked and did hand gestures. So I said sorry and waved my hands....which now that I think about it, she could have thought I was yelling back at her.

After a few blocks she cut me off and when we stopped at a light continued with her hand movements....I did nothing.

So, my question is.....what is the proper hand gesture to apologize when you screw up on the road?

Nothing. Just ignore the idiot that got in your way.
They should be the one apologizing.

In as seriousness, I never engage another driver, whether my fault or theirs. Someone got all road rage on me once because I saluted them with my middle finger and nearly caused me to have an accident. My sister and baby nephew were in the car with me. I vowed never to do that again.

LOL, same here. I'm a b*tch on the road. I don't care. Don't cut me off, don't swerve into me, and don't piss me off in general or else multiple hand gestures going up!

I completely ignore people...don't' even look at them!! it INFURIATES them to no end!

Half the time people get cut off cause theyre going to slow. Funny thing is, when someone is driving slow and I put my blinker on to go around them, THEY SPEED UP. Because everyone feels like they OWN the effin road. Im pretty sure the reason she ended up getting cut off is cause she sped up to stop you from going in front of her. Dont feel bad. You cant apologize to everyone on the road. Its impossible.

I never apologize on the road either - even when the fault is technically mine. I think road rage is stupid and people just need to calm the freak down. If somebody cuts me off, i roll my eyes and say 'jerk' but i'm not gonna start waving my arms like an idiot and screaming out the window. It would just make ME look like the loser and I'm not. So I don't go down to their level either by even acknowledging their stupidity. I'm a preschool teacher and even most 3 and 4 years olds aren't as immature as adult drivers


For a little anecdote - i'll just add that a couple weeks ago it happened to me. lol. I hate Colorado drivers - they go freakishly slow and have no idea how to merge, switch lanes, or ANYTHING!! So i was driving on the Interstate where the speed limit is 75 (which of course means that I'm going closer to 80). This idiot in the lane beside me decides that she wants to pass a truck, so she turned into my lane and doesn't even speed up. I didn't wanna slam on my breaks (with the all cars behind me) so I just slowed ever so slightly, but let's me honest - I was up her @ss She passes the truck and gets back into her lane and she was freaking out!!! Hand gestures, screaming 'b!tch' out the window. It was one of dh's favorite moments. Too funny, I was laughing so hard. Get a life, girl.
Maybe 10 minutes later, I needed to switch into her lane but I did not cut her off. She was far back behind me (since she was driving slower than I), but we could see her in the rear view mirror and she started freaking out all over again, swinging her arms and such. Too funny. She definitely amused me.

Of course i never apologized - she shouldn't have cut in front of me and then gone so damn slow. DH of course gave her the finger, but I don't sink that level.

HOWEVER - if I was a bigger person and did want to apologize, i'd probably just hold up my hand (not wave it or anything) just hold it up. I guess

LMAOOOO Love that link! Okay I was kinda pounding it on my heart. Yeah you never know what a gang sign is anymore! to me that looks like, Im going to stab your heart out. i think trying to be nice with hand gestures will mostly get you in trouble!

that is true. I carry a machete sized knife in my car. People wouldnt expect that from little old me. ::insert evil face:::
