DH and I are stopping by North Shore Animal League next week to adopt a puppy. I'm just curious if anyone has done this before with NSAL and what the process is like?
What questions do they ask, is there an application, how do you choose your dog, do they do a vet check on them, background check on you, how long does it take for the whole thing?

Re: Has anyone adopted a dog from NSAL?
I adopted my dog from there last year. there is an application, but its nothing crazy. they ask if you live in an apt, house, if you have a backyard, etc etc. Also, they want to know your work schedule, because they do not like to place puppies (under 6 mos) in homes where there is no one home all day. You also have to give references and I guess depending on whether or not they can verify/speak with your references, you can leave with the puppy/dog that day. We were able to leave with our dog that same day.
They also have you meet w/someone from their vet staff & they will update you on the dogs medical history, and what shots/medication are due, etc. All in all, it wasn't bad. Granted it does take some time since they want to make sure they are placing them in a good home. HTH - here is a pic of my baby..

my parent's dog is from there. mostly they want to make sure that you get a dog that is appropriate for you. they ask questions about things like your work hours, how much you are home. like if you are going to get a dog that is hyper and needs lots of attention--they might not want to be leaving the dog alone 10 hours a day.
also they usually want some type of proof that you CAN have a dog--like a letter from your landlord or proof that you own your own home. that way they don't give dogs to ppl who are going to just bring them back.

My MOH just got her dog there on Tuesday and so far they have been 'amazing' and very helpful. The application is basically just as everyone said above.. Good luck!
