Has Anyone Had an MRI on the Brain??

I have to go for one in a little while for my pituitary gland to make sure there are no tumors.. and they have to inject some crap into me for contrast.. Am I going to die??

Update:

So I just got back a little while ago from the MRI.. It was pretty interesting..

They sit you in a chair like seat and put this helmut like thing over you that has 3 plastic strips across it and secure your head... they then tilt you back a little and put you in the middle of this big machine.. and then gave me ear plugs bc it was so loud.. My mom was actually able to sit in the room with me, so I called her and made her come down.. I was able to watch TV and hear it.. I was watching the food network

So it was kinda loud thru the ear plugs and the machine was warm around me and of course I had a panic attack and they had to stop.. Once I stopped shaking and drank some water, they were able to complete the first part without the contrast..

So when it was time to do the contrast, it was a vegetable oil based clear liquid that she put into my veins.. EXCEPT.. my veins weren't cooperating.. bc I hvae had so much bloodwork within the past 5 months, my veins in my arms shrunk, so the liquid made my arms swell in the veins.. looks like I have marbles under my skin.. she then put it in a vein in my wrist and sent me back into the machine..

I was good to go until my arm went on FIRE.. it was burning so bad that I had to rub it to alleviate the pain.. but it's all gone now, except for the lumps and of course I am bruising like a heroin addict.. whatever

SO 2 HOURS LATER... I AM ALL DONE!!!! Ugh

Ive never had one, but I dont think you are going to die!! But to ease your mind I'll send some your way!

i've had a few mri's with contrast before.

i can't promise you won't die - but i didn't.

I may glow in the dark - but i'm not dead....yet.

No your not going to die. You might be mighty uncomfortable. I had to go and get 2 done for my neck in which they stuck my head in the MRI machine. I was very uncomfortable and I was antsy because I hate staying still and since it was for 1/2 or so it was worse. I could not wait for it to be done. Mine gave me music so I don't know if yours will but that kinda passed the time. Oh you can also take a nap too but that didn't work for me.

Yes I had it - no worries you won't die I hated the needle part that was the worst (for the contrast) -It is a hot sensation is all. It will be over before you know it and it is better you get the test than not have the test

I had my DH come with me to hold my hand during the preperation b/f they turned on the machine. I am such a baby

aw, honey - you won't die. A woman at my last job at a tumor on her pituitary gland. Once they took it out, she lost 50 pounds. SO CRAZY. But back to you - you'll be ok. The contrast doesn't hurt. You might be uncomfortable but you'll be ok.

Thanks Girls!!! I think they have TV's in the room from my understanding but my thing is, is that we all know how thirsty I've been (which is part of the reason for the mri) and I am fidgety.. so being thirsty and fidgety may not be such a good combo!!!

And I'm going alone...

aw, honey - you won't die. A woman at my last job at a tumor on her pituitary gland. Once they took it out, she lost 50 pounds. SO CRAZY. But back to you - you'll be ok. The contrast doesn't hurt. You might be uncomfortable but you'll be ok.

aww. let us know how it goes. maybe they can give you a little sedative to calm you if you feel really scared or fidgety.

ive had some but never on the brain. you won't die from an mri.

you'll be so happy once you get it over with!!

I had a brain MRI in February - but mine was without contrast. The worst part was getting in the tunnel for me, but the headphones with music helped a TON.

I'm sure you'll be fine!!!! I went alone to my MRI too.
