Have you ever NOT attended a wedding?

Have you ever been invited to a wedding and not gone? if so, what were the circumstances behind it?

i have 2x's. the first time, it was too close after my sister's and dh was out of work. money was tight and we would've had to stay over. the 2nd time, i had a family function the same week and it would've been too costly

Yes--- different circumstances....most recent was the same weekend as DH's grandparents 70th anniversary party, one year I couldn't travel back to NY again for a friend's Sunday wedding (had to go for 3 weddings, sister's graduation, and grandmother's funeral all in span of a few months) ....most weddings I have gone to if I can....but also there were a few years where I was invited to a lot and some were people I had lost touch with and they were not local so skipped them!!!

DH and I had been to around 25 weddings together before ours!!!!!

I've always gone but had to leave one right after cocktail hour due to a horrible migraine

I ALWAYS GO! But recently I have so many that have fallen on the same day as another wedding/other plans that I have had to say no

Yes, also 2x. One was my dh (then boyfriend)cousin and one was his friend. Both times I bailed but dh went, I bailed because we were fighting at the time (funny how it revolved around the times of weddings haha!)

I've gone to every wedding I've been invited to. I'd never skip somebody's wedding (unless there's a major reason why I can't be there)

I have yet to skip one, although I kinda wished we skipped the one with no music or alcohol.

I have had to decline 3 invitations. All friends from my time at Indiana (and were either in Indiana or Tennessee). One was the weekend I returned from France, so I couldn't take off any more time from work, and the last two I've had to decline due to our current financial situation (and I'd have to fly & stay in hotels for both). I would MUCH rather go, so I was definitely bummed. I still sent gifts too.

i said no to my cousin's wedding...because it was in Florida and i just didn't have the money for they airfare hotel and wedding gift.

We had to miss two last year and I was VERY sad about it. One was a couple we're NOT close to (DH's Aunt's Boyfriend's son) and we couldn't justify spending all the money on the airfare and taking off from work the next day since it was a Sunday night wedding. And the other was DH's cousin's wedding in Key West. I REALLY wanted to go but DH couldn't take off from work the day before and with flights from St. Louis to Key West we couldn't get there until after the wedding was already over.

I came close to missing my cousin's wedding...... but I went. I woke up in the morning feeling like cr@p.... fever, nausea..... the oddest thing.... maybe food poisoning? Dunno. I began to feel better by noon, so I dragged myself to NJ.

There were two weddings I was invited to that I did not go to.

1- I was invited to a wedding of someone I was very good friends with, but grew apart the few month before her wedding. I responded yes with 2, but ended up not going. I couldnt go b/c I was getting over viral meningitis, had NO energy. I lived in Queens, the church was in Elmont and reception in Lake Ronkonkoma. I never would have survived the night! I tried calling her within the week before the wedding when I knew I was not going to be able to attend, she was never home, I left messages on machine as well as with her FH, I even went so far as to call her mom and left a message on her machine, no call back from anyone. PS I knew this girl since 6th grade.

And 2- I was invited w. DH to a wedding, I was not able to go b/c I was OOT visiting my mother. DH went (we RSVP'd 1) as it was his friend.

There was another wedding I was invited to but didnt go, it was my cousin's in Arizona. Didnt have the vaca time or $ as it was 2 mos before my wedding.

Yes, when I was in my early 20's there were about 3 of them within a year. They were for my cousins that I never see. At that time in my life, $ was very tight for me and I couldn't afford the gift and to buy new outfits. Now I look back and feel bad that I didn't even send a small gift.

Last year. My cousin got married in San Francisco and I couldn't go because we just got back from vacation and I had just started a new job.

yes.. DH had the flu and the wedding was out of state so we couldnt go... if it was local i would have went by myself...

Sure, there were a few where I was just unable. My cousin got married 2 days before I took the bar exam. I went to the church, but there was no way I could go to the reception. An 'acquaintance' (barely) of DH got married the weekend before we did OOT. We couldn't make that either.

I'm sure there are at least one or two more I couldn't make because of prior commitments.
