Have you had your inlaws over since you've been married?

Original post by AllJoy

Just curious. We haven't. I told Dh we could have them over for dinner, but he hasn't pushed the issue. He knows I really dont' want to. We only had his mother over last year for Thanksgiving when we were engaged. I have no desire to have them over. Yeah, I'm a b!tch.

I get along with my in-laws very well. We had them over for NYE. They actually live upstairs from us, So we see each other almost everyday. I have NO reason not to like them, they have helped my husband and I alot, and my MIL also watches my youngest son Blake when I work everyday. They truly are heaven sent, and I love them!!!! I actually feel sorry for people who don't get along with their inlaws. We're all living on borrowed time, so to be a b!tch solves nothing. Thats JMO

That is so nice too often we read about MIL issues it is so nice to see some kind words

My in laws have never been over because they live out of the country. We are actually going to stay with them for about 2 weeks very soon. I get along really well with them and am looking forward to the day when they come to NY to spend time with us

DH gets along with my parents so well. He called my dad up one day and went Christmas shopping with him. They have been doing all the constructuion work on our house together too.

I feel bad for anyone that has any kind of in-law issues. Everyone getting along so well makes life a lot easier.

They've stopped by for a few minutes, but they've never really stayed. My parents haven't either. The only person we've ever really had over here so far is my best friend.

yes, of course! Never for dinner, but a few times for brunch. Especially in the nice weather when you can take a walk and get out of the house. I recommend having them over and making brunch. its always more laid back that way.

My in laws spent a lot of time at our house since we've been married. I love them dearly, so much so, that they've been over probably 5 times as much as my own parents! I think my parents have been over like twice!

Your poor DH, I'm in the same boat. I lost my parents suddenly when I was 19, thats why I wish my inlaws weren't so cold. I have no hatred towards them and have always been friendly to them. MIL never showed any interest in helping with any wedding stuff. You would think that since I don't have a Mom she would've offered to gown shopping etc. or helping with our wedding and I'm not talking financially. She even made the comment to DH when he asked her what color gown she was wearing that 'why should we be asking, its not like she's the Mother of Bride'. I thought that was quite rude since. As the saying goes 'you can't change people'.

I have been nothing but nice and friendly to them from day 1. I guess I should've been more clear, I never said I didn't get along with them. I'm just not into entertaining. Also, MIL is very cold to me. I just wish they would be more welcoming to me, especially since I don't have parents of my own!

yea its really, really hard to deal with.. i was around when they both were alive and well.. they passed away suddenly also.. DH does not have ANY family here in NY at all! it breaks my heart, i would love to have inlaws to have dinner with, family functions..etc.. but it just isnt so

i feel soo sorry you are going through this with your inlaws.. like you said , you think they would be more understanding and step in. especially with your wedding and the planning.. i would have been upset too! i hope things work out with them and build a great relationship!
