Holy Crap* Taxes

I nomally would not share an amount but I can not help. DH did our taxes and it changed so much from us getting married. He normally owes or maybe gets a hundred bucks. But this year we are getting back $13,000. I am finally gonna have furniture in my formal living room and dining room. I am soooooooooooooooo excited.

I have a son and I dont even get CLOSE to that much...

$13,000?!??!?!?!!! holy sh*t!! u also know married couples are getting back $1200 from the government right? so if u didn't figure that in ur gettin' back close to 15grand u lucky girl! Too bad my hubby has worked on commission these last few years....more like we OWE 13k! lol. but congrats to u!

My mouth hit the floor. I have no idea how changing marital staus affects it so much. But it has been checked and rechecked.

you must own a home and pay mortgage interest and real estate taxes...that can have a great refund.

Are you paying a mortgage? You can receive the interest you have paid through the year as a rebate. I thought it was great i was telling my dad I can't wait to get money back but the reality is the money you get back is really your own money the gov't was just holding it for you with a really bad interest rate.

I said the same thing to our taxes. I also got a large amount back due to being homeowners, paying property taxes and owning a hybrid car. I am not done yet still waiting for a few things so it might be alittle more. But as everyone else said DH and I are usually the ones getting a few hundred back. I guess being married has it perks.

Congrats. But just to confirm, it's not JUST due to getting married. It's because owning a house entitles you to a lot more back. I'm pretty sure that's right...?

yup you're right---its mostly because they are jointly filing with the home mortgage interest and taxes paid.

2 ppl who were single before and didn't own a home--and then get married wouldn't have much of a difference in refund, for the most part.
