How many houses did you look at before you placed an offer? How many houses did you place an offer on before you went into contract?
DH and I just put an offer on a second house - the first one, the owner decided to take it off the market.
Just wondering how long it took everyone else!!!!

Re: Homeowners. . .
We actually put an offer in on the first house we saw and we signed contracts but it's a short sale, so now we are waiting on the bank to sign the contracts. It's such a long, drawn out process...
good luck with this one!

We looked at about 10 houses before we put an offer on one. We only placed an offer on one because they accepted. This part of the process only took a few days. ONce you find a house you like and put an offer on it I would say within a week you will know if you got it.

Re: Homeowners. . .
We looked at somewhere around 15 (I think...)...the house we now own was a short sale, and took forever...so it wasn't a typical situation.
Good Luck!!

Re: Homeowners. . .
we physically looked at about 10... but we looked at SO SO SO many online
we put in an offer on one house, but we actually never heard back from the owner - which was really
then we put in an offer on the house we have now & it was accepted within 72 hours!!

Re: Homeowners. . .
We looked at a lot but we were indecisive about where we wanted to live- we started out looking in long island for a house but then decided we would rather live in queens- so we found a coop.
We made an offer on our place, she countered- we went up a little and then we settled on the price.
we went to contract and then she screwed with us again on price and we had to go up about $2000-
you shouldnt have that problem though because houses are sitting on the market and its likely yours may be the only offer that they have seen- so dont be afraid to play hard ball!
Good luck!

Re: Homeowners. . .
We looked at 10-12 houses before making an offer on ours. We made offers on a few others but the owners kept countering and it just got too high for us. But we are SO happy with where we ended up!!

us too! we put an offer on a short sale in June - we waited for so long! we had to renew our offer contract twice to give the bank more time...after like 4 or 5 months we said forget it and when it came time to renew the contract again we decided to let it expire - and that was just to get the bank to appraise the house and accept or counter our offer.....it worked out though b/c we changed our minds about that house - after my shower we realized we might need a little more room and i wanted something closer to DH's job.....we are house hunting again this weekend!!
but i think we only saw about 4 houses when we put an offer on the first house - we loved it so much in the photos that we took a trip down to see it - we loved it in person - i STILL love it - but i can't imagine DH having to drive so far every day to work....plus we would have to build the pool ourselves and that would be a headache....
looking at houses is SO MUCH FUN - i wish we lived in florida so we could really look - its hard doing it from out of state....

Re: Homeowners. . .
We looked at about 8 i would say. But, when we were looking there definitely wasnt as many houses on the market so its not like we had that many to look at. I think if we were looking now, we might look at alot more.

Re: Homeowners. . .
Wow. Dh and I have probably looked at just about 100 houses in the past year. We got a report on one...and the house we loved needed way too much work, so we pulled back. We are just about to put an offer on a house we just recently saw. We absolutely LOVE LOVE it. Its the only one so far that we both equally love.
House hunting started out as a fun experience then got frusterating...now its fun again lol...It really is a roller coaster.
Good luck girls!

we looked at about 100 houses no exaggeration.
We were dealing with a terrible real estate agent.. The weekend we got out of contract we found the house of our dreams.

Re: Homeowners. . .
We started looking late August, we looked at 33 houses(not including ones online). We put an offer on a house, (it was the 7th one we saw) after we saw all 33 houses. It was a foreclosure so it was a long process. We got an accpeted offer in Oct, closed on our home in 12/19/08. Best thing we ever did!!!!!

Re: Homeowners. . .
The best thing we did was get an actual loan committment before we started even looking. We submitted all our documents got an actual 60 day committment, no locked in rate. it was great.
