Re: Honestly ladies, how much DID you get $ from the wedding? (not gifts, not how much was given to pay for the wedding)

My dad contributed exactly what we 'made' -- $12k, which after paying off credit cards and spending money on our honeymoon has quickly dwindled to less than half that figure. My inlaws gave us $0 in assistance and $0 as a gift. BUT the best part is that we had about $9k left over from what we saved. Of course I thought of a million ways we could have spent that on the wedding but I'm really glad we didn't.

Re: Honestly ladies, how much DID you get $ from the wedding? (not gifts, not how much was given to pay for the wedding)

Well we are still figuring that out. Two months after the wedding and I was looking at our excel spreadsheet and we haven't received gifts from 1/3 of the people who attended the wedding (including very close family members). I'm working on the assumption with the majority of these people that we may never receive a gift and that's fine. Attending our wedding was a great gift, but I can't help but be a little peeved by not receiving a gift from people whose weddings we attended and gave them gifts and they attended our and we have received nothing. Also the close family not giving us any kind of gift or acknowledgment (a card, etc) is kind of strange. We see them on a regular basis...

Re: Honestly ladies, how much DID you get $ from the wedding? (not gifts, not how much was given to pay for the wedding)

My dad & stepmom paid for my dress (mantilla and alterations included)...and they paid for our favors and invites. But DH and I fudged the #'s and didn't ask for all the $$. (We actually didn't ask for any of the $$ but my stepmom is very insistant and persistant.)

We saved for the rest ourselves and it was all paid off BEFORE the day - including our HM - and we actually had money in our account going into the day! LOL

Our guests were very generous - it was overwhelming.

My parents and IL each gave us about 15K, my aunt gave me 1K towards my wedding dress (I ended up paying for alterations, bustle, and taxes), another aunt sent us $500 for incidentals.

Re: Honestly ladies, how much DID you get $ from the wedding? (not gifts, not how much was given to pay for the wedding)

*sigh*
Closed the poll

I apparently didn’t explain myself clearly.

I didn’t mean to ask if you made even. I don’t expect to.

Point blank all I wanted to know was to get a feel if I’d be able to hope to get a check or two on the day of my wedding that Jim & I could deposit and use on our honeymoon.

I am not counting gifts as money since I don’t think you an pay for a hotel bill with a blender

I am not counting contributions as money since you can’t say to a waiter “My tip? Ask you mom nicely and she’ll help pay for the DJ, just something I learned.”

I am not counting money received after the wedding since obviously I can’t just tell Disney “Here’s an IOU for my bills”.

I am not sure how this got so confused and off topic. If anyone ‘gets’ it and wants to FM me or post their approximate NIGHT OF amount, I’d appreciate it. I know every wedding is different, mine is small and no one rich or even CLOSE to rich is attending, so I don’t expect some check for $1,000. I just wanted to get an idea.

Re: Honestly ladies, how much DID you get $ on the night of

Ok, in that case. We got about $3000 in cash and about $13,000 in checks...sorry I misunderstood your question.

we got married on friday & depositied the cash & checks the next day. we then stayed in NY until that Monday morning to spend some time with our OOT guests. Most of the checks (the ones that didn't bounce ) cleared by the time we got to Fla. on Monday afternoon. The out of state ones took until that Thursday, I believe.

Re: Honestly ladies, how much DID you get $ on the night of

Oops, I also misunderstood...

your actual question was: how much total CASH MONEY was given on the night of the wedding...

well, my total cash amount won't help you because most of it came from my in-laws who are not American. They converted Euros into cash for our gift (they did not have the ability to give us a check)

But, from Americans, I'd say we probably got $3,000 in cash.

Honestly though, the people who gave us cash were VERY nervous about it. They handed us cards and asked my DH to keep them in his pocket because they had cash in them. I could tell that as they were walking away, they were trying to see what we did with their cards...

Re: Honestly ladies, how much DID you get $ on the night of

my understanding is that you asked how much money, whether checks or cash, did we receive on the night of our wedding ... if i am correct, i replied to your poll accurately (>12,000).

eta: we got an average of about $100 pp (and i would say we got 90% cash or checks) (and i cant say we had many 'rich' guests as well!)

Re: Honestly ladies, how much DID you get $ on the night of

We got close to $6k in cash-money...the rest was in checks...so I think I still answered your poll correctly and chose the >12,000 option.

I'm really not sure how much cash we got at our wedding...maybe $500 at the most. We had about $22,000 in checks though.

7,000 in cash the rest was checks and Chase deposited them wierd and alot were out of state banks.

We honeymooned locally at my inlaws cabin in the poconos before we left so by time we left for our 'real trip' money was in the bank.

Re: Honestly ladies, how much DID you get $ on the night of

We paid for everything ourselves, including honeymoon, and engagement party...everything!!!!

So, we saved like crazy for 15 months and pulled it off. What we received as gifts was nice, but didnt come close to paying for our wedding...not even half of it. (Which is fine, it is just nice to get gifts).

We used our gift money toward a down payment for our condo. So, not we have nothing! LOL
