Do you just mean the total amount received in gifts or the amount of gifts-the cost of the wedding.

Re: Honestly ladies.. how much DID you make $ from your wedding?

Nah.. just cold hard cash (or check is fine)

Gifts are that.. gifts, not money to me.

Frankly money is a gift as well.

It's werid. I don't see my guests as bank accounts or if they don't get me a gift as stiffers.

I see those who are FAMILY who say they want help from me from time to time but don't come to my wedding and DONT send me money as stiffers! It's not the way things are supposed to work in my family.

Anyway, I just wondered since I've read ALL sorts of posts on here about how brides 'price' their guests.

I don't think you're supposed to have your wedding paid off by gifts and money. I was just wondering what is normal out here. In Texas.. it's opposite they give you the money FIRST to actually PAY for the wedding.. and a gift later, nothing big. So you start life without debt and they get their name put in the programs therefore EVERYONE's happy.

Re: Honestly ladies.. how much DID you make $ from your wedding?

Our parents were extremely generous and paid for the whole wedding, so we got to keep all the gifts. Otherwise I guess we would have to pay for about half the wedding ourselves.

Re: Honestly ladies, how much DID you get $ from the wedding? (not gifts, not how much was given to pay for the wedding)

We got a generous from my dad for the reception, but we covered the rest. We also paid for 100% of Italy. We saved our a$$es off for a year and a half.

As for your honeymoon - there is nothing wrong with waiting a bit to go, if you need to save... I know lots of couples who have done it. Plus, it just extends the fun for you

I made back what i paid for my wedding and then got $2,000 over that. I am also still recieving gifts if you can believe that. I thought after the wedding the gifts stopped but i guess i was wrong.

my parents helped us out with about half of the wedding costs and we paid for the rest....so what we got back was more than what we saved for the wedding

Re: Honestly ladies, how much DID you get $ from the wedding? (not gifts, not how much was given to pay for the wedding)

We already had enough to pay for the HM ourselves before the wedding. My dad paid for the reception. We also had $4K left over in our 'wedding account' the day before the wedding (we saved our asses off!).

And we made a nice penny after the wedding.

If we just count cold hard cash that we got at the wedding no we didn't get back what we spent. We baaaaarely got back what we spent if you add in the non-cash wedding gifts.

No one paid for anything for us other than my dad paying the reception cost.

Re: Honestly ladies, how much DID you get $ from the wedding? (not gifts, not how much was given to pay for the wedding)

we didn't pay off the wedding, so to speak, but we didn't look at it like that anyway. we went into it paying for the wedding up front, 75% of it on our own...but as for gifts, we did good i guess but not like we are going out to buy a house!

We paid for 80% of the wedding. We got less than that $amount in gifts. So we didn't 'make' any money the night of.

we didn't pay for the wedding - my parents paid for everything and my fil's paid for their people...we did very nicely - people were very generous.

i paid for the things that i wasn't going to ask my parents for $ for...the favors, my veil, the table placecards, stuff from Michael's...

Re: Honestly ladies, how much DID you get $ from the wedding? (not gifts, not how much was given to pay for the wedding)

We got about $17k in cash the day of our wedding. $6k of that was a gift from in laws.

Our wedding was about $50k including HM all of which we paid for ourselves so needless to say we did not pay for our wedding off gifts.

For the most part people were generous but we did get and empty card and a $25 check which verbally was written for twenty....hmmm. One 'stiffer' but he is from another state so maybe he will send a gift. I didn't think the empty card would bother me but it's from a girl I grew up with but not that close with anymore but went to her backyard wedding reception after not seeing her for maybe 10 years and gave her $50 and got nothing from her. Her sister gave $100 and brother gave $50 and a gift from her other sister who I know is financially strapped. This girl is not. OK let me stop rambling about this.

We did not have our wedding for gifts or to pay for it. It was a celebration that we knew would cost us a lot so we figured whatever we get in the end we get.

Re: Honestly ladies, how much DID you get $ from the wedding? (not gifts, not how much was given to pay for the wedding)

My parents paid for the wedding (most of it anyway) and DH's family is from the south so they don't give money - they give gifts from the registry. So from my side of the family we got $10,000. Not bad since it was a small wedding (total of 113 people including DH's family). We spent all the money though on credit card debt and a china cabinet.
