I grew up in Western Suffolk and DH OOS. We wanted something centrally located so we could make it to the city or out east (wineries/Montauk) without it being a trek in either direction.

We went with Farmingdale. We're close to the train with a 55 minute ride to the city (where we both work), we're about an hour from the wineries. We're just west of Rt 110 and just east of Main Street So we have great shopping and restaurants super close by. It's also really easy to get to all of the parkways from where we are. Rt 135 is near by and we can take a back way to hop on and make it to the NSP or LIE in under 10 minutes and can be on the SSP in under 5. We felt for the price we got a lot of bang for our buck and the taxes although slightly higher than I would like aren't horrible.

We're also close to my parents so when we do have kids we have a support system.

Will this be where we live forever? Probably not. Ideally we would like to live in Northport, Babylon or maybe Garden City or RVC. We decided that we'll play it by ear and see what the housing market is doing when we have been in this house for 5 years.

Easy - both work in the town = 7 min commute

It was pretty easy for us...DH is from the midwest and moved out here to be with me. While we're still only renting, we decided to do so within a 15 minute radius of my parents. When we buy we'll stick in this area.
