I was having a conversation with a member of DH family last week..and a comment was made that my rings must have really set him back and was I sure it was the right thing to have him spend his money on...I ignored it and continued with what we had previously but I just had almost the same convo in email with another family member...but heres the thing ...I had 'budgets ' for my E ring and wedding band...I was under by more then half for my e ring and a little under with my band...how do I nicely let them know that I didnt maje DH buy anything and that neither are over the top......I had actually said to DH at one point e ring shopping that I would gladly take a lot of sneakers lol.......It just makes me feel really bad I would never put Dh out in any way and its making me crazy that people think I would..I have included pics of my rings...they arent nuts.....
Don't feel bad. People are just lame. Ignore them. They have nothing better to do and they are nosy.

I would say regardless of what was SPENT...'these are investments and the cost goes up every year....why do you drive a benz being that it is devalued everytime you get in it'.....people are just ridiculous

Re: How do you handle ring questions
tell them that he didn't spend enough and you plan on going bigger cause you're fuking worth it
seriously just let them know 'i don't ask these questions to him, and i trust he spent what he felt was worth it.....case closed.'
my family looks at my rings and says 'damn right you deserve that!' cause no one in my family has ever really gotten the bling. my mom only got a wedding set on her 25th anniversary from my dad!

When people ask me something rude, I just smile and say 'why do you ask?' That usually shuts them up

Re: How do you handle ring questions
I would say 'Don't worry...i put out alot for him...so it's an even exchange'..haha...but that's just me and my sarcastic way of telling people to shut the hell up....either that or i'd say they are cubic zirconium...give them something else to gossip about amongst the family....do they think you sat there with a gun to his head saying'You must buy these or the wedding's off!!!'...don't stress..sorry they are being jerks!

Re: How do you handle ring questions
im shocked ppl would actually come out and say those things.
its no ones business.
id either try to ignore or say something like 'thanks for your concern but we're really fine' or 'thats kind of personal' or something to that effect.

Re: How do you handle ring questions
I cant belive anyone would even ask that!! its really rude.
I'd remind them that DH bought the ring on his own with the money he felt he should spend on it!! And tell them to get a life, and stop focusing on nonesense crap that is long over and done with, I mean you probally got the e-ring a while back already!!
It does give you insight though to how they are. I'd steer clear of sharing financial info with them in the future, they could make a big deal and cause more trouble if your spending isn't fit for them.

Re: How do you handle ring questions
It's a rude comment. People just think that they have every right in the world to be nosy.
If anyone comments on how much DH must have spent on your rings, just reply, thank you, I like them too and look at them if they had three heads and continue with the conversation. Don't let yourself be uncomfortable nor should you feel obligated to offer an explanation.

i would make the same car comment.
also, if the questioners are from anywhere off the east or west coast, they likely aren't used to what our 'normal' is. my cousins from the midwest made similar comments about my ering, and you just have to ignore. if it gets to be too much though, say something snarky. they'll stop.

Exactly!! My rings have nearly doubled in appraisal value since when we first got them a year ago. Jewelry is an amazing investment!

Tooooo F-ing funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a friend actually ask me last night how much DH made a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I obv didn't answer because it is NONE of his freaking business- I just said something about including raises and bonuses and then deductuing 401K, taxes, etc I really didn't know what it came out to- which is actually kind of true- of course I know his salary but have no idea after all that what it really comes out to- nor does it matter- as long as we are eating and paying our rent- I spend my own $$- but anyway, back to your problem at hand- I would just say the same as everyone else has answered- after I smack them on the nose with a newspaper for being too damn nosy!

People are very nosey...and like a lot of others said., you dont not have to respond. It really is not anyone's business other than you and your DH...I have had the same thing except people ask me why mine is so small!!...people have nerve.

Re: How do you handle ring questions
Truthfully it's really none of their business how much DH paid for your rings or how much it 'put him out'. But if you want to give an answer, I would simply explain that you and DH did your homework and shopped around to find good quality at an appropriate price. You could even say, 'we didn't spend as much as you might think we did' or that you haggled to get the price down.
