I was having a conversation with a member of DH family last week..and a comment was made that my rings must have really set him back and was I sure it was the right thing to have him spend his money on...I ignored it and continued with what we had previously but I just had almost the same convo in email with another family member...but heres the thing ...I had 'budgets ' for my E ring and wedding band...I was under by more then half for my e ring and a little under with my band...how do I nicely let them know that I didnt maje DH buy anything and that neither are over the top......I had actually said to DH at one point e ring shopping that I would gladly take a lot of sneakers lol.......It just makes me feel really bad I would never put Dh out in any way and its making me crazy that people think I would..I have included pics of my rings...they arent nuts.....

TO be honest-you dont have to tell them anything.
I would say regardless of what was SPENT...'these are investments and the cost goes up every year....why do you drive a benz being that it is devalued everytime you get in it'.....people are just ridiculous

yes people (i find in my family usually the ones over 60!!!) are very rude and in-your-face with such questions. My aunt asked how many carats were in my e-ring diamond and i told her (honestly!) that i didnt know and didnt ask. and i still dont know, its not important; what's important is i love it, he picked it out for me and thats that.
btw i work per diem and a staff member had the ballz to ask me how much i make an hour. *** man!

Very rude. I agree with the others who suggest responding, 'We spent an appropriate amount' or some other neutral comment, and then changing the subject or walking away.
WTR to diamonds as an investment, that is unclear. The resale value of a diamond from a layperson is low--any pawn shop can tell you that. Although they're clearly not worth nothing, you may not regain what was originally paid for it.
i always get 'how cute' then some people say awe - well i guess he worked hard to get you that. WTH ( you know what i want to say for real) its like don't EVER say something to anyone. OR that rock must of set you back - just like how low class are you to ask that.
So what i do is I smile and say well yea it is cute and it fits me and we worked hard for it. That is it.

I don't, but I guess you're right about them being from out of NY, but who knows, I like the 'Why do you ask?' answer

Re: How do you handle ring questions
As soon as they see that my ring is a tacori...I get comments like...' That could be a down payment on a house' OR ' You could have bought a brand new car' A car is NOT an investment. I just shrug it off....I love my ring and wouldnt change if for anything!!!
They are just jealous!!! YOUR RING is Beautiful!!!!!
