How many of you are TRULY happy at your job?

Original post by NapaValleyGirl

So, I was wondering if any of you ladies are truly happy at your jobs.

Last September, I got a new boss. My former boss was amazing and I really took it for granted that he would be here forever. I really enjoyed comingto work every day.

These past few months have been really hard with this new job and with the economy the way it is, I wonder if things just roll downhill and that's why I'm so miserable.

I wonder if I should just take a chance and find a new gig OR grin it and bear it till the economy is better...

Are you all happy with your jobs? Or do you wish you were working somewhere else?

I love my job. I do my work and go home. I could never work somewhere where I had to bring my work home with me or stay late to 'finish up'

I do a lot of work, but it will be there in the morning. And the leave is so flexible, its ridiculous.

Sure I could find some stuff to complain about, its a bit boring - some of the promotion policies arent fair. . but honestly, I dont think I could ever find a better place to work!

This is what I'd love to have. I hate staying late or bringing work home with me (even when I don't physically bring stuff home, I think about stuff). It really *****. I don't know how it's going to be any different than teaching since I'll be writing lesson plans and grading papers

eh I have my days. on the one hand, it's not exactly rewarding. on the other, I'm really lucky i fell into this career, I work with amazingly smart and nice people, and the money kicks ***. Plus getting school paid for is key because it will make me more marketable here AND if I decide to go elsewhere. So I can't complain. DH says that's why it's called work and not fun... because well, it's not fun to work!

I feel you about your boss, I know how you feel about him. At my old company i HATED the management there and one of the decisions one made is what made me leave... but I didn't have the misfortune of this economy. I have days where I just get bored with the scene but I just talk myself out of it because I'm not really miserable you know? If you are miserable still it can't hurt to look and keep your options open.

Or, if you want, I can put out a hit on your boss.

i agree, i hate taking work home with me. and my priorities have just changed since getting married... I just want to do my job and go home to DH at a reasonable hour, and it's not always that easy.

I do truly LOVE my job! My degree is in education but have no desire to teach after my hellish student teaching nightmares, so I have been doing Admin-type work ever since I got out of college and I love it!

I have posted various things about my job so some of you may remember. We have a blast here! I literally could walk to work, I am that close to our house. It's a small company and it's mostly men (all my supervisors are men) which just makes for a TOTALLY different and great working atmosphere! You don't get that cattiness that you get with women coworkers.

It's really laid back here. My bosses will burst into song at random moments. 2 of them have Nerf guns that they shoot each other with. It's just a constant joking and overall happy environment. I am not sure I will be here for the rest of my life, but for now, I have no plans to leave.

Im definitely not truly happy. I wish I knew what field would make me truly happy. Then maybe I could do it..

Its ok. Its a job. I don't think I could truly love a job unless I was singing and tap dancing on stage or something. Its a desk in an office or a desk at home. It is what it is.

Anthony just called me and told me a girl who he used to work with now does Medical Billing, and is looking to hire someone and train them. So he told her I needed a job. But my question is, does the job pay well?

I have a lot of respect for people who do that b/c even though I can get home before 3PM every day if I needed to i STILL feel like there arent enough hours in the day! So women who can work late and still find the time to work out and cook and clean amaze me!

It depends. If they're hiring and training you, I bet they'd start you around $14/hr. That's what we'd pay someone w/no experience. If you work for a specialist it might be more... I've been doing it forever, so obviously I make more than that, but its easy money and not bad work.

I love my job. I pretty much look forward to coming in. Sadly, they may be moving our office and the dynamic may change which makes me sad.

Aww, thanks Silvana. I know you have my back. It's just one of those days where I couldn't sleep the night before because of sneaky things I found out he did. etc.
We'll get together at a class or a cocktail to talk about it soon.

Yeah, would it be good if life were a musical? I think we'd all be WAY happier.

I just have to keep reminding myself 'it's a job.'

i just posted about possibly switching jobs, and i still have not made a decision....either way i like what i do not where i work and i used to love what i do and lost that feeling a while ago......

i may even consider a new career choice someday....probably not any time soon with the economy the way it is....but i guess i will have to wait and see what the future as in store for me

I think it depends on the day on how I would answer that question. But usually I love my job. Just my field is stressful so I don't think it's the 'job's' fault.

in this economy i am glad i have a job

its a good job, good pay, good people

i still have time to come on here so it cant be that bad ....

i dont know if there is a perfect 'job' for me....so i wont complain

Re: How many of you are TRULY happy at your job?

Cindy....so sorry about how you are feeling!!! I think I remember reading a study that thre #1 reason people leave their jobs is because of their boss! It is terrible I know. I myself have quit 2 jobs due to bosses - one of them they knew it was bc of the a-hole boss and they really tried to get me to stay but the pay was crap so I left.

Anyway is there anyone else there you can speak to? I am going to say that it doesn't hurt to look around a bit....always keep your options open.

And to answer your question - I do like my job a lot, the people, my boss, the hours and everything else. It is not challenging and that sux but the $$ is good and I like it much better than any of my other jobs. I wouldn't leave unless something huge came along.

I started my new career a few weeks ago (passed my RN boards 6 weeks before the wedding and didnt start at the hospital until after the wedding) so far so good, def great pay increase, it is what I have been studying for for the last 3.5 years AND I am on the maternity unit! Hopefully seeing all of those little babies every week will keep the itch subsided for a while

I hate, hate, hate my job....with a passion. I have a masters degree and am having a lot of trouble finding a job in my field so it's just frustrating being here when I know I'm wasting time that could be used futhering myself in my real career

Me too! Well, I dont have a masters yet..but a BA but I need to get licensed in order to work in my field but in the meantime I feel like my current job is just a waste of my life! GRRR..i hate it!
