how many people here invest in stocks ( aside from 401k)

I am very interested in the stock market.I've been reading some investing books and will look to set up an etrade account soon.

i was wondering how many people here have a stock portfolio?

have you been successful?
do you keep rolling over the money or do you cash in your dividends?

this is so exciting to me!

DH wants to start doing this soon... my BIL has a stock for each child.. its a great thing.. i think we might do the same when the time comes

we've been getting into it--DH is actually kinda obsessed. We haven't invested a whole lot just let, but it's fun to watch and see if we made anything. My dad always invested, and set up portfolios for me as a kid, and thanks to that I have lots of savings, which will be helpful when we move back to NY and try to buy a house.

I would suggest watching Jim Cramer's Mad Money if you don't already, he has some great tips and the show is hilarious. It's on MSNBC every day at 6 i believe.

We just roll over the dividends, we figure if we put the money in in the first place, we may as well see where it gets us!

We do...we are very into investing our money. We have been doing ok!!! Yahoo finance is a great place to start!!!

we have some invested in a certain foreign currency, that is supposed to revalue soon,but thats its. He used to dabble in the stock market until it crashed and he lost so much.

I have a mutual fund that works pretty well. My dad says though, that tax-free Municipal bonds are the safest way to go (he's now retired but spend most of his career as an investment banker).

DH does and always did, and prob. always will. Its sort of like a sport to him, he knows it well, and plays it well. But i dont really follow it all that much. Hes made lots of money from it but hes also lost lots of money from it, but thats the risk you need to be willing to take in order to make a substantial profit in stocks i suppose.

I do!
I cant tell you what i have it in though....my dad would call and ask me if I want to hopefully make $$ and then he tells me how much the shares are and I write him a check.
He's been good so far with the stocks I been buying
