How much sugar do you take in your coffee/tea??

Original post by TrueLoveIn2008

I am trying to cut back. It's HARRRRD. At home, when I make my own tea, I have been using a tbsp and a half - give or take. At work, I tried getting away with 4 packets - which is 1 tsp - but I cannot. I need at least 5, 6 would be better. I don't think that's a LOT - I mean, one teaspoon? - but people hear 5 packets and they flip. It's actually only 20 calories - I looked it up on google (1 packet = 1 gram of sugar = 4 calories -- so 4 packets is 16 calories, 5 is 20).

What do you use? Are you trying to cut back because sugar just isn't good for you?

In my coffee - WHEN i drink it (rare) - I'll use a LOT MORE. I prefer tea but sometimes coffee is all I can get, or needed to wake up.

i guess i'm lucky I don't like things super sweet; you can't win though - I take NO sugar in my coffee or tea and people are like ewww how can you drink it without sugar

I guess sugar is no good for you but if you don't have issues (like high blood sugar levels) then anything in moderation is okay.

same here.. i take NO sugar in coffee or tea.. no splenda, honey nothing.. people think i'm nuts.. especially my dad

I used to use like 5 packets, but now I am down to 3...ocasionally I do 5 depending on how strong the coffee is.

You are so right though, people see 5 packets and make so many comments!!

I use one splenda in the coffee I make at home and 'diner' size coffee. If there is no splenda, then 3 sugars.

If i drink a large iced coffee, i put about 25 packets of sugar, sometimes more, i like the sugar to sink to the bottom, and with each sip i like a mouthful of sugar

What does that make me?

mmmm and you get the little grits of sugar in each sip? I LOVE that lol

That does make you the anti-christ though, sorry.

I love that too!

In hot coffee, no sugar a little bit of whole milk
In hot tea, 1 teaspoon sugar and some lemon

Iced coffee and iced tea, about 1 to 2 teaspoons sugar, depending upon the size of the glass.

Hmmn, I though 1 packet of sugar equalled one teaspoon.

I think it's supposed to equal 1 tsp, but my Mom measured them a few times b/c she kept thinking she was nuts (well she is for different reasons ), anyway she measured and the packets are NEVER 1 tsp.

I am bringing one home from work and measuring it now!!

Anyone try that new stuff they are advertising on tv - Ideal? Supposed to taste just like sugar and feel like it too?

I tried one that they were touting a while ago - stevia I think? It's HORRIBLE. Tastes like sweet and low to me, which is NASTY I think.

I hate all sugar substitutes. I think they taste like butt. They just have a weird after taste.

When you guys say '3 sugars' - do you mean three packets? Or 3 spoonfuls? Cuz I say 3 sugars at DD for a medium tea - but that's like 3 heaping teaspoons I think. Just curious what you guys mean.

ETA: Please don't think I want to know because I want to tell people to cut back! I am just curious how what I use stacks up with what others use. I always thought I used a lot but it doesn't sound like it anymore, which is good!

Don't you hate it when you go somewhere and they don't have the container and they just have packets? I wind up using like 7 sometimes and I look like a sugar freak!

I got myself down to NO sugar in my tea - i only use honey when I am sick

and two sugars ( teaspoons ) in my coffee, I rarely drink coffee though.

its such wasted calories to me, trying to cut out all sweetener. I also dont eat/drink anything diet so that artificial sweetener totally screws with my stomach.
