How much sugar do you take in your coffee/tea??

Original post by TrueLoveIn2008

I am trying to cut back. It's HARRRRD. At home, when I make my own tea, I have been using a tbsp and a half - give or take. At work, I tried getting away with 4 packets - which is 1 tsp - but I cannot. I need at least 5, 6 would be better. I don't think that's a LOT - I mean, one teaspoon? - but people hear 5 packets and they flip. It's actually only 20 calories - I looked it up on google (1 packet = 1 gram of sugar = 4 calories -- so 4 packets is 16 calories, 5 is 20).

What do you use? Are you trying to cut back because sugar just isn't good for you?

In my coffee - WHEN i drink it (rare) - I'll use a LOT MORE. I prefer tea but sometimes coffee is all I can get, or needed to wake up.

I got myself down to NO sugar in my tea - i only use honey when I am sick

and two sugars ( teaspoons ) in my coffee, I rarely drink coffee though.

its such wasted calories to me, trying to cut out all sweetener. I also dont eat/drink anything diet so that artificial sweetener totally screws with my stomach.

I am the same way. I get sharp stomach pains if I eat anything that has nutra sweet or splenda.

i guess i'm lucky I don't like things super sweet; you can't win though - I take NO sugar in my coffee or tea and people are like ewww how can you drink it without sugar

I guess sugar is no good for you but if you don't have issues (like high blood sugar levels) then anything in moderation is okay.

same here.. i take NO sugar in coffee or tea.. no splenda, honey nothing.. people think i'm nuts.. especially my dad

OMG my dad too! but only with espresso - he can't understand how or WHY i drink it without sugar; he's like 'espresso was meant to be had with sugar!' I'm like, what great wise Italian man made up THAT rule?!

I know how hard it is to cut back, I'm addicted to sweets myself. It's so tempting with all the sugar out there. I guess, it's easier to remember it this way:
1 teaspoon of sugar= 4 grams, 16 calories
1 teaspoon sugar = 1 packet

For coffee, I normally stick to one to two sugars with skim milk or 1% milk, sometimes half & half
For tea, 1 1/2 packet is sweet enough for me and I add a dash of skim milk.
I should really cut back on iced tea esp the sugar!
For Starbucks addicts like myself, all the gym workouts amounts to nothing. I saw their menu with the calories and it does do a lot of harm than good.
For ex. the grande iced skim caramel macchiato is a mixture of vanilla with steamed milk w/ espresso which gets very addictive. Add in a whooping caramel drizzle and it packs more than 240 calories than it claims. The hot skim caramel macchiato is 170 calories but it's still up there. I guess, I gotta stick with their iced coffee w/ skim milk- 90 calories and 2 packs of sugar. Gotta cut down on the caramel macchiato!

I put one Splenda (or Equal) in my tea. If no sugar sub, I use at least 2 tsp of sugar. I sometimes vacillate between using sugar and Splenda because Splenda is only one molecule away form plastic.... But at the same time, I don't want the cals from sugar and they add up because I drink tea all day long!

Maybe one sugar in my coffee, and nothing in tea. I'll add honey once in awhile if I'm sick.
