If it were me, I'd have just walked away - F* the douchebag. Not worth getting riled up over, ESPECIALLY if he wanted to still be a douche.

That, or I'd have told him to go f* himself and have a nice day.

Re: How the FLIP do you handle this???...

in all honesty - i've run into my nasty exes. and i think it's SO much greater to be super sweet & say 'hii how are you' and then go on to tell them how absolutely fantastic and happy u are. keep it short and sweet & leave holding ur head high. the last time i did this i had gotten an apology email three days later saying he was sorry for all the sh*t he ever did and he sees what a great person i am, blah blah blah. GOOD.
makes 'em realized what he missed out on - and if he's that much of a douche to not even care, atleast ur being the bigger person and can never give him a reason to call u a b*tch..

I would hope I could be the bigger person and be civil to him. I have run into a few people I did not get along with so well (can you believe someone didn't like me) and I just make it short and sweet. One of these people wouldn't even look at me and it was just silly to be like that years later. Nine years is a long time I would hope in that time I would have been able to build a bridge.

Yea..in essence thats what i did. Lets recap briefly.

1. He cheated on me (WHILE I was in the hospital...keep reading)
2. I think he cheated with a guy and so does his mother though nothing was ever proven.
3. He dumped me IN THE HOSPITAL after I experience an anxiety attack of massive proportions that got me pulled from college first year.
4. he always called me 'man' like 'Hey man what's up.' Do I LOOK like a man???

That was in 1999. Fast forward to 2008.... I am walking from a productive day of shopping and we literalyl run into one another.

If my life were truly a romantic comedy, this would be the moment where the heroine meets 'the guy.' But since I already have 'THE Guy' at home waiting for me AND cookign ym favorite dish tonight, this was simply the moment where I revisited 'THE A$$hole,' and got a headache from our heads smacking together.

Recap of today's events in bullets for brevity:
* He still calls me 'man,'

* He said I looked 'grown-up now like my mother. (Wan't a compliment because he always said my mother was conservitive and boring)

* He bragged about becoming a mixed martial artist and smirked when I said i was a receptionist down the street (well I am) on ym way to teaching, to which i smiled and said 'Mixed martial arts? Is that like the UFC wrestlign on the gorund all wrapped up in other guys? WOW that's so GREAT you finally found a career that puts you one step closer to coming out of that closet.'

* He got pissed , said I was 'still a crazy b*itch' and that he had a daughter.

* I blew him a kiss as I walked away calling over my shoulder 'I'll let McGreevey know you will need HA (Homo's annonymous-I made it up and feel lousy about it. HELLLO gay SIL who i really like!) mentor. Ta ta.'

So I got the last laugh so to speak but my hands are still shakign and Im just so pissed. I HATE being a person who says snarky things and I hate being put into a situation where I have to act beneath myself... I anted to be calm, classy, civil and he just HIT every nerve ending I had about him....

I'm the type when I get mad I cry and I started to tear up which why I went into uber defense mode and now i stopped to his level...iust a perfect flipping ending to this whole damn week.

Nice that you got some good jabs in.

Me, I would have just walked passed him, and if he said something, I would have called quite loudly over my shoulder (keeping distance) Sorry but I don't know you.
Keep on walking.

I should have done that and then i wouldn't feel like such crap. I guess because we never got closure and he really sideswiped me with the breakup, this one was more difficult to deal with. Any of my other exes I would have rolled my eyes but he just did alot of emotional damage and i allowed my tongue to over rule good judgement... -sighs- At least the day is almost over and Pete is home making chicken tarrgon.. good stuff.

First of all, Jenn, I'm sorry you had to deal with this first-class loser today.

You know how I feel about EXES

I'm sorry he made you feel bad because you acted differently than you normally would but my hat's off to you for being able to tell him off a little bit. All I ever did was cower to my ex which drives me crazy to this day.

Put this out of your head-he's not worth a minute of your time. Enjoy your night with your hubby-you deserve it!!

Love ya, sweetie.

Do not, I REPEAT, do not feel like crap.

You did absolutely nothing wrong.

This guy, we'll call him Jim ( ) was trying to brag for your benefit. . He fathered a daughter. Whoopdeefreakindo. Not like Jim's the first bi-guy ever to do so. Didn't say that he married the baby-mama. Now if he were the man that is pregnant, that would be a different story.

Jenn, you learned hard from this time in your past. You have moved on the better things, and are bettering yourself in many ways. Focus on what you have now and what you are trying to achieve for your future with Pete.

Let Jim remain a distant memory of your past.

Now where's that darn Haagen Daaz ?

Re: How the FLIP do you handle this???...

omg i'm rolling Jenn, i think you DEFINITELY handled yourself well!!!!

I have an EX-HOLE too, he wasn't gay/bi, just a lousy boyfriend, you know??? I still see him every once in a blue and depending on the day, i'll either wave politely or just get REALLY wrapped up in the blackberry. His vision ***** so i have the advantage.

I think you can let yourself off the hook for whatever went down today, you're not an azzz, and your hubby's not either, so really, what else matters. He sounds completely self-absorbed anyway so he would've been jerky no matter WHAT you said to him. Hell you could've been Grace Kelly-elegant, polite and beautiful. He'd say you look lousy as a blond.

That was what we call a no-win situation for you; just count your lucky stars that the guy upstairs got you OUT of that- and sent your Petey your way...

Oh and a last note:
My DH would've said, 'OK, you're not gay. But your BOYFRIEND IS.'

I don't let any of my ex's bother me- when I see them it just makes me even happier that I have DH.

total cheesy answer, but true

I actually have to agree with this one. I would just be so happy I wasn't with him (the ex) anymore

awwwwwwwwwww sorry you had to see that pendejo sweetie!!! i don't know what i would have said or done, but i think you did REALLY good for bumping into him out of nowhere! just hope you never see him again and if you do, walk the other way!

Re: How the FLIP do you handle this???...

my answer....hi- bye. walk awayyyy. try to be civil and get out of there.

i just read what happened..just sounds like seeing an old fling who hurt you brought up some old feelings, especially when you felt like he was being condescending. sorry you had that encounter!

Like others said, you're blessed with a sweet husband at home!! What else matters?

...I know...in the moment, it doesn't mean it made it any less horrendous to have a bad run in with an ex.

Re: How the FLIP do you handle this???...

how long did you date him? How long ago, and how long has it been since you broke up.

I had some messed up relationships, but I was also young and I'm sure people change etc etc. I know I have grown tremendously since I've dated other men...No hurt in people saying hello.

Of course, I don't know YOUR specific situation but It wouldn't bother me bumping into an ex unless I still had some kind of feelings for them...
