Re: How would you choose in this situation?

there is just no way that you could know that one would die...

the better question is probably who would you save first...although if it werr DH and mom...I'd help mom first, b/c DH is stronger...you know...it doesn't mean anything!!!

I worked with an orthodox Jew who once mentioned (I can't remember the context) that you should always pick your spouse over your children...b/c you can make new babies...you can't make a new spouse...(again her comment...not mine)

Ugh...Erica....on some strange level, I can kind of comprehend that person's comment....but, then I think of my sweetie Paul's face, and it just makes my stomach CHURN.
I am sure the truth is...you would suffer a PROFOUND LOSS either way.

Re: How would you choose in this situation?

I remember that this issue was addresses in the Bible. ( yeah go figure 'I' would remember that )

It says in the bible that in that situation, you save your spouse..I'd like to add 'FIRST'...maybe because this is the path you are chosing- spenign your life w/ this person, having children of your own, raising them and then letting them go to live their lives.....

Re: How would you choose in this situation?

I asked Dh about this...and he said there was a movie K2 where a guy, his sister and father were moutnain climbing and the line broke...his father was hanging on at the bottom...and the father screamed for the son to cut him loose so that he would save his sister...so he did..but throughout the movie he was riddled with the guilty that he could have saved both...

Re: How would you choose in this situation?

This is an old Chinese 'riddle' and the Chinese would answer that you should save your mother first because while you can always find another wife, you will only have one mother. I read this somewhere when I was teaching about ancient China. It may have come from Confucius, an ancient Chinese philosopher.

But I agree, it is a very difficult and depressing question.
