I no longer have my parents and could never call anyone else Mom or Dad. (I think that would still be the case even if my parents were still here). Besides DH's MOM is a cold fish! I don't even refer to her as MIL. I just say 'DH's Mom'.

I think it's different for women.. your MIL is NOT your mother, you only have one and she's not it.. JMO

I totally agree - I will never be able to call them mom & dad. Besides DH isn't close with his parents at all so there's no pressure for me to have to call them mom & dad either, phew

OH um.. Btw- They are totally not replacing my mother and father just b/c I call them that.
My parents totally understand - I look at it as just an extension to my family. It is all good. I think it depends on the Relationship you have with your In laws from the start.

My ILs want me to call them 'mom' and 'dad' but I just cant. I tried -- I actually did once when I was a little drunk...but it was too weird. My parents are the only people I can call mom and dad. So, I just call DH's parents by their first names.

i can't and i won't.....my mom is my best friend..... dear MIL and I frequently have 'issues'

i call my il mom and dad too. even after almost a year of being married its still a little uncomfortable and forced at times. dh calls my parents mom and dad. both of our parents absolutely love it.

lol I have the same problem.. I still call them by their first names.. don't know how to get out of this bind..
