If I had to do it over again, I would not have spent money on....

Original post by marc_rai

????????

Was there anything after you bought it that you were like, uggh that's a waste, no one really noticed, etc. Whether it was the 4 tiara's you bought before finally deciding to keep it, chair covers, spending extra $$ on a cake, jewlery, reducing the guestlist, table cameras etc please list it.

This might be able to help others figure out where to cut back if our budget is kind of tight

So, what did you find you spend money, or even tremendous time on that in reflection maybe wasn't really worth it??

I think I would not have spent all the time and money making my wedding programs - which my DHs nephews didn't even hand out most of them anyway because they were late to the church.

I also wish I could have had my $800 deposit back from the first videographer we met with because we decided not to use him.

Money well spent was: my table cameras - we got some great pics! also the picture frame we had with a matted pic of us in it that everyone signed (instead of a guest book).

Other money well spent - although it was a LOTTTT was photography and videography, but it was worth it to me and I don't regrent spending a dime. Don't ask DH though becuase I'm sure he doesn't agree!!

I would not have spent money to add the fondant bows to my cake...because Audrey's did not put them on.

I am not a fan of Audrey's bakery either. I was supposed to have a 4 tier cake and they did a 3 tier. I will never use that bakery.

The money purse for the cards at the reception. I looked all over to find one I liked and never even took it out of the box. Also, I had them special order a wrap to match my dress 4 weeks before the wedding. I never used it. The gloves I bought for my girls to go with their dresses. We decided the day of that we didn't like them and I still have them wrapped up sitting at my moms.

The 'comfy' shoes--I never put them on.

The programs--I would still have them, but I'd do a lot fewer.

The rose petals for tossing--nobody managed to figure out they were supposed to toss them.

The wrap for my dress--I did use it, but only because I was determined not to leave it in the box. I didn't really need it.

The table cameras...torn on this one. We got a few great pictures, but mostly garbage. Don't know if it was worth the money.

I was truly disappointed in them. The cake still looked great and tasted great, but when I was cutting my cake it really disappointed me that I got the wrong cake. They also messed up some of the cake design, I wanted smooth edges, and they added some design...

I tipped too heavily in some instances. I had made out envelopes beforehand and gave them to the Best Man. So he gave them out, but I would have takes some of the tip out for the DJ and photographer. I wasn't too happy with either one.

I would not have spent the $$ I did on the photographer - or at least not on this one. My SIL took better pictures. We are not happy with the quality of the proofs (poor lighting, shadows, too far away -- besides lots of misssed pictures). We only got 250 proofs which I now see is like nothing.

Other than that -- I wouldn't have changed anything I don't think. We didn't get limos, or favors. Oh I might have spent $ on a gown - I wore a pretty dress that 'shrunk' in my closet.. lol.

Spending too much time and money on favors - a lot of people left them behind.

Which is ok, because they were wine and I had no problem drinking them.

A girl after my own heart!

the guest book- it was useless

That's why we did the polaroid guestbook. I LOVE IT!!!! I really think all couples should do this if they can.

It sounds funny but I honestly wouldn't have smiled SO much in my pictures. I was so happy that day but I smiled way too much walking down the aisle and the pictures look a lil funny.

Other than that it was a perfect day

I don't feel like I wasted money on anything, but I also was very conscious of the money spent, while I was spending it. I bought cheaper invitations than the ones I originally wanted, and I'm glad I did. They were still beautiful, and I know they all winded up in the garbage in the end anyway. I'm still undecided about the table cameras because I haven't developed them!

For me my veil and tiara. I spent WAY too much money on them, when I could have got them for almost $800 cheaper. That is my only regret.

I was also pretty thrifty during the planning, so I don't regret much of what we spent. I would have preferred to do a donation instead of a favor, but DH wanted chocolate favors, so we did that.

I did buy ballet slippers to change into, but kept my shoes on all night. I couldn't have predicted that in advance, though, since I often take off my shoes. Likewise, I bought a pashmina shawl that I didn't need. We unseasonably warm day, also something I couldn't have predicted, so I would probably do the same thing if I did it over. Glad I didn't spend extra on Viennese hour- everyone told me they ate so much as it is, I think it would have gone to waste.

would have ordered the dress i wanted from the beginning instead of trying to save money with one which wasnt what i wanted then loosing the deposit on it.

um, the whole thing? kidding...

we had a limo at the end of the night only, no need for that whatsoever...

we spent the most on food and music and it was well worth it. everything else we got creative with and saved.

we were going to skip the HM are glad we did not. lots of $$$ spent, too much $$$ spent, but unfortunately it is what it is...

it would have been nice to tack on another hour or 2 at the end of the night as people were lingering...

I would have chosen a different (and BETTER) photographer and saved $1500

1) I would not have spent money on my aisle runner. It looked terrible after I walked down the aisle and no one thought to straighten it.

2) My Mom wanted sorbet served between the salad and appetizer or 2 of the courses. They charged us almost $500 one scoop per dish, with no garnish or anything.

3) I would not have spent money to upgrade our car rental on our honeymoon in Maui since we only used it once!

Every other penny was completely worth it!
