If you were on a ship that was sinking

If you were on a ship that was sinking

(like the Titanic where it was women and children first) would you have gotten into a lifeboat without DH or would you have stayed behind with him?

For me....I wouldnt get on a lifeboat without DH....I just couldnt.

Even if I was single, I wouldn't cash in the gender inequity card.....

call it personal pride....

Re: If you were on a ship that was sinking

I was actually watching Titanic with DH the other night and asked myself the same question!!!!

I honestly don't know!!!! It would be so difficult for me to choose. But I think I would get on a lifeboat bc that's what HE would want for me. Then it would be easier for him to find a way to survive on his own rather than to try to keep the both of us alive.

Like in the movie, if Rose had stayed on the lifeboat then Jack would've survived the sinking and would've been the one laying on the door so he would've still been alive when that boat came back for any survivors.

I just don't think either one of us would be able to just sit there and 'wait' for death, but if there really were no other choice then I'd rather do that and die together than to live my life without him.

I'd throw him overboard and jump on a life raft.
JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would stay with him....but he would probably force me onto the raft.

If I had children, I'm not sure what I would do. I'd probably put them on the raft and stay? No....I'd want to protect them.
I don't know what I would do! Hopefully I never find out.

Oh god good question.

I would want to stay with him but I know he would make me go into the lifeboat.

Great Idea!!

I would stay with him.
Also, I don't think I would be able to live with the fact that I left him there.

morbid question....

I would definitely stay with DH regardless of the situation. I'm an optimist who believe in miracles and thefore think that someone would come along to save us both. I'd never leave DH's side.

This is TERRIBLE of me to say but things are different today. Shivelry is basically dead. Aside of DH and my Dad, there is no man that would give up his space on the life boat for me. I think it would just be pandamonium...every person for themselves.

Yuck I am such a cynic but hey, when was the last time a guy other than your DH gave up his seat for you or another random woman on a train/bus/subway. Ugh I've seen some guys practically steal a seat from very pregnant women and elderly people.

OF COURSE I am generally speaking

I know I would stay.....I wasn't even with DH yet when I saw Titanic and I remember sitting there thinking 'where the heck are you going....you love him so much....you can't leave without him' Then she leaps back onto the ship and i screamed 'YES'out loud ! My date at the time argued with me about her being nuts and I said 'you've obviously never been in love'

For some that is easy to say when you dont have children to look at. Dont get me wrong, I love my DH and cant imagine life without him. But to me its easier to answer that question when it is just you and DH. I think for a man to watch as his wife and children sail away would break anyones heart but to have to watch them die is worse. I'm sure they're first impulse is to save their families first. Plus you gotta remember alot of those women were crying their eyes out when they had to be seprerated. Plusthat was the Victorian times, women did as they were told. JMO

omg that was great!

like another poster said--i'd wanna stay with him, but i think my DH would seriously THROW me into a life boat to save me. he's like that. but i'd proabably pull a Rose and jump back onto the ship and be all gay and say 'You jump, i jump!'

I dont agree with this at all. To me shivelry isnt dead. If Im walking with my kids (stroller) and I need to open a door, men still hold open doors and often offer to help! Sorry to say its women that dont help. If I happen to be riding the train with my kids (not something I do often) Men will more give up their seats than women. To me as women who sees me struggling you would think that she would understand more. I've seen women pregnant on buses and trains have to stand up and ride while WOMEN pretend to sleep b/c they dont want to give up their seats. I had a 2 WOMEN walk past me when my stoller got stuck in the door at the mall, an ELDERLY gentleman helped me. So to me shiverlry isnt dead its so called SISTERHOOD that's gone.

I did think about this a little after I posted and thought that well during a disaster people do tend to come together and help each other out (ie 9/11...sorry to bring up such a bummer of an example but it's true). Regardless of gender people do look out for each other.

I can only speak of my own experiences when it comes to day to day manners. I can't tell you how many times I gave up my seat on the subway for a pregnant woman, eldery person, disabled person, ect . Meanwhile there would be a young healthy guy not even looking up from his newspaper. Again, it's generally speaking. I'm sure many of our DH's are not 'that guy.' My DH better give his seat up for a lady in a family way!

OK back to cross-dressing our DH's to get them on the boat..that was FUNNY!
