I'm back! **edited with pictures!!**

Original post by Teri

We got back from San Diego last night - we had the best time! The weather wasn't as warm as I was expecting, so my clothes were a bit too summery - that just meant going out and buying some new clothes!

We stayed at one of the nicest hotels I've ever seen - the Hotel Del Coronado, where Some Like it Hot was filmed, among a few other movies. The hotel was pricey but WELL worth it - the service was impeccable and food was delicious! Below is a pic - I'll post my own pics when I get them back later this week.

We easily became quite spoiled. Every afternoon after coming back from our daytime activity, we'd sit on the hotel's deck and have a few drinks. Then last night on the way home, I had a craving for a drink - it was only 3 in the afternoon
We visited the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park, both of which were very interesting and fun to see! We also shopped and dined in La Jolla, Del Mar and a few other neighboring areas.

A highlight of the trip was meeting up with YABBOBAY and meeting her DH and friends for a few drinks! Erica - James and I had a great time that night! Hope Mexico was amazing. Email me when you get back

I have to admit I'm a bit sad to come back - CA is a beautiful state and everyone is so incredibly friendly. Within 5 mins of arriving back in NY I nearly got knocked down by some @$$ in baggage claim and ran over by a cab in the airport

Anyway, we had a wonderful time! I highly recommend our hotel if anyone is planning a trip to San Diego.

Re: I'm back!

Shamma - I don't know our exact price we paid, but it was a splurge. We did manage to haggle them down about $80 or so per night from what they first quoted us. That's partly because we booked within a few wks of our trip.
We went on a history tour during our stay, since the hotel is a historical landmark, and found that one separate cottage with a private beach is quite popular. It's where Marilyn Monroe stayed during the filming of Some Like it Hot and now rents for a whopping $2,300 per NIGHT!!! That includes a lot though - the cottage is like a small house with LR, DR, huge BR, etc and all the perks of a hotel too. But WOW! Can you imagine? He says it's booked between 4 families each summer too!

Stef - nope, I wish I could take that shot! That's what I pulled from their website. More photos for now can be found at: www.hoteldel.com

Re: I'm back!

Lisa you should have seen me in SD - I was taking pictures left and right! LOL

I brought my camera to our first GTG during the snow storm, but not to our most recent one at TGIFs - none of us did!

Re: I'm back!

Ok, I scanned some of my favorite pictures!

here's a pic of the front of our hotel - it's too large to get it all in, so the first pic I posted was probably the best, but I love with one through the trees

Re: I'm back!

One of the cutest pictures! I swear he turned around only for me! I can't remember what exactly this is - some type of ape....

Our favorites were the arangatangs - they are so human like it's amazing. They're so much more advanced than the rest of the animals around them it was incredible to watch them interact with each other.

This was one of the pandas - so adorable!!! This is Gao Gao's roommate (he's the one they're making all the hype about, but IMO it was overkill - this one was more social) - I can't remember his name though! He was sent over from China as part of the US panda program..

Terri, those are nice and all but I prefer to see people and if you are going to post those things you must be in the pix

This was at the Wild Animal Park, which was really cool to see. Unlike regular parks, this one is so huge, and the animals aren't locked in cages. They're separated by species, and given tons of room to roam around in together. This giraffe was just hanging out by the trees

Here's a pic of James and I enjoying one of many drinks at the Del's bar to start the evening off right

Erica, these pics should look familiar!!

These were taken at the La Jolla Cove - what a gorgeous town La Jolla is!! I could have spent days shopping there :)

Aren't those purple flowers gorgeous?

There was a cave that you could enter at the top of the cliff and walk down to the beach, but I am clausterphobic and chickened out!

That's all
