I'm so excited -- yesterday DH and I went puppy shopping!
My parents and brother had gotten me gift certificates to Petsmart for my brithday in July so DH and I wouldnt have to spend too much of our own money on pet supplies. We were going to wait until next week right before we get the dog, but we were just too excited.....so yesterday when I came home from work Dh and I went pet supply shopping! It was soooo fun. We bought the crate, a nice big fluffy bed to go in the crate, a collar, a leash, a personalized ID tag (its a dog tag like military guys wear....obviously DH's idea), really really cute ceramic bows with a matching mat under it, and a few toys. Dh insisted we get The Kong and a camoflauge football, haha.
I was so hungry since we hadnt eaten dinner yet, that we went in the treat aisle to buy treats for her and I kept saying how good everything looked seriously though...some of those Jerky strips and stuff actually looked yummy So, now the crate and all the toys and everything is all set up in the house and all I can do is stare and say 'I cant wait til we have our baby' Oh man....if I'm this bad with a dog I dont even want to know how impatient I'll be when I've got 9 months of pregnancy to deal with.

Where are you getting your puppy from?
That's exciting!!! We actually got our puppy sooner than we thought so we had to run out the same day and get all her supplies!!!! And we have a Kong too, Kasey loves it!!!

Hopefully NSAL if we can find one we love there.
I know!!!! My parents dog has a Kong and its her favorite toy in the world. And it saved us from dealing with destroying furniture -- she never got the urge to chew at things because she always had the Kong.

Awwww..congrats...my mom & i use to goto NSAL just to look...and there was always at least one dog i wanted to take home with me...and that's without even looking at the puppies! I adopted a Border Collie from there when i still lived with the folks...she is now 12 and such a great dog!! here she is as a pup & then a big girl..she still lives with the folks. DH & I have 2 of our own little monsters.

My dog loves her Kong also!!! It's also the only toy (besides Nylabones) that she doesn't destroy. good luck at NSAL. I'm so glad that I got my dog from there!!

Haha...im so nervous that we wont find one that fits us next friday. Now that everything is set up for her....i cant imagine not coming home with a puppy.
I'll post pics as soon as she's home though!!!

That's great you got all your puppy supplies. I'm also glad you're looking to adopt - whatever you do, please don't get a puppy from a pet store. Most of them come from puppy mills where they're born into horrible conditions. Shelter dogs are the best!
On that note, I've been volunteering at a shelter in Westchester for several years and have seen many adopters come and go. When you go, keep an open mind and listen to the people who work there when they recommend the best dog for you and DH. Sometimes a puppy isn't for everyone, just as an older dog isn't for everyone. I hope you'll find the perfect dog for you on your first visit, but remember that it's better to wait for the right dog than 'settle' for a dog that's not the best fit. You, DH, and the pup will all be happier in the long run!
