I do not remember ever watching one in the past. I guess I never was a fan of George W. and maybe wasn't intrested when I was younger.
However I am excited to see the whole pomp and circumstance of the day. Luckily for me at work I have the ability to watch it. I even have the Today Show on now, so I can see whats going on.

Wow!! Surprised that they would monitor your internet to make sure you dont 'clog' the network!! They should get a tv somewhere then.
I tried going on Newsday when I got in and it was kind of in limbo so I closed it...ha. I'm on my BlackBerry now...ugh. When I first saw the e-mail I thought they were going to say we could actually watch it. Guess not...LOL. I'm sure that's all that's going to be on all night anyway.

I think that it should be a day off every 4 years. It seems important enough to me.

I will absolutely be watching. I also think it is awesome that schools are allowing students to watch. This is a historical moment and how cool will it be for those children to one day tell their kids/grandkids/great grandkids that they watched the first african american president be sworn in.

i totally agree!! although im happy to be watching it at work on cnn.com, i really wish i was in the comfort of my home with DH instead of being here pretending to work and answering calls. everytime the phone rings I feel like yelling at the caller 'its inauguration day! leave us alone!!'

Yes this is such an important and historic event. No matter republican or Democrat, We are witnessing History in the making. We will be able to tell our Grandchildren that we saw the first African American president sworn in. I feel this overwhelming excitement inside of me, with lots of different emotions swilrling inside. Iam happy to be able to watch this. I wish I was there in the massive crowds. LOL.

I agree. I think it's great that schools are allowing students to watch. It's a significant time in history.

nop can't watch it...well unless I am able to sneak on CNN and have the volume low. I am interested in watching it to see what Obama says, he is a great speaker...however I do know he has writers haha. But anyway....I would still like to watch it.
I guess I will have to catch up after work on the updates on the news.

I think it is strange that we get off for funerals of former presidents but we dont get off for this. . . I wonder what the reasoning is.

Oh yeah that is weird. I didn't even think of that. I do think if we can get off for every presidents inaugeration that would be great. It definitely is something that people should tune into and experience viewing. However, this might sound ignorant of me...but I wonder if as many people would watch it etc. next election (if it is not Obama) or the election after that etc if they had the day off. I don't know I don't mean to sound stupid or anything but that is just how I feel.
but I do think it is an important event in all our lives and we should all be able to watch it without being told NO etc.

I'm pretty sure CNN will have a transcript of it on-line.

It's not stupid...you're probably right. Think about it, how do most people spend Memorial, Labor, Veteran's and President's Days? I remember seeing Veteran's at one of the parades and they were sad that people seem to have forgotten the true meaning of the day. Most people mark it with barbecues, shopping sales or just another day off. So it would probably be the same with this day...it's just that this is history making. ;)

Thanks, you made me feel better. I didn't want to get flamed for saying that people are only watching it today since it is our first African American President- which is making history definitely. But it's true many people would probably just make it another holiday where they can have shopping sales etc. and that is sad. But what can ya do.
