Inexpensive Furniture

Bob's Furniture is a little too expensive for apartment living right now....
So name some of your favorite places to get furniture....doesnt matter if you have to put it together

Honestly... Craig's List is fantastic. You can get really good quality pieces for practically nothing. Usually it's people upgrading or moving who just want to make a few bucks from stuff they paid a lot more for. It's a bit of work to whittle down the garbage from the gems, but can be completely worth it.

I got a white leather lay-z-boy for DH a few years ago for $50. It's in perfect working condition except for one little pen mark on it. He loves that chair!

I just wouldn't buy a used mattress (eww) but other than that, you can seriously get really good stuff!

we got all our apartment stuff from Ikea....sometimes its a little difficult to assemble b/c they just show you through pictures, no written instructions.

also try registering for freecycle.com, people give away stuff on there and sometimes you can get good stuff

i live far away, but i've always found a LOT of success looking up wholesale furniture outlets...they are the ones that sell to furniture stores, so they always have MUCH lower prices! HTH!

Ikea it is a pain in the butt to lug it home, and put together but it is cheap!

We bought our TV stand, bookcase, and computer desk from Ikea and actually have no complaints about them, which is more than I can say for the crap we bought from Raymour which we are still having problems and repair issues with pending, which is pretty impressive given we've had the stuff since November! What type of furniture are you looking for? We were pretty picky at Ikea and only used them for accent pieces, not main items, so we actually spent a decent amount of money because we made sure to get the few pieces they had there that were solid wood, not fiberboard. Their solid wood stuff is pretty nice.

Re: Inexpensive Furniture

people may think I am crazy, but I have gotten some great deals on furniture at the Salvation Army stores. I got a huge queen bedroom set, dresser, hutch with mirror, headboard, footboard and 2 night stands for $250.

Its hit or miss, but sometimes you find really great furniture for a lot less than I have seen at stores or even Ikea

DH & I are moving into a bigger apartment in June & now we realize we want/need different pieces of furniture.
We dont want to hang our flat screen on the wall any longer - so we need a new entertainment center....
Headboard
Dresser
Desk

we got our end tables from Ikea - but other than that, I'm not crazy about the style furniture they have on their website...

It's always better to go into the store and see what they have. It's hard to tell how you will like the furniture from their website. Also, check out target and walmart online...I have see a lot of cute stuff.

craigslist has dealers that sell directly to consumers.. Check that out and at time they dont charge you taxes or can sell 1/2 of what is sold in stores.

I started browsing around craigslist & i have to say - wow.
I know to each, his own - but some of the stuff on there...totally out there!

Although on the plus side, I may have found a bedroom set - minus the mattress of course!

Re: Inexpensive Furniture

we recently purchased an espresso leather sofa and loveseat from Raymour and Flanagan's clearance center. We were fine with taking the floor model (we carefully inspected it) and they knocked the price down to $850 for BOTH. We were able to take it with us because DH has a pickup truck. We have 2 big dogs and I'm happy to say the leather is really durable and doesn't scratch (it has triple-layer polyurethane)

We bought a matching coffee table from Bob's for $399 but we had a $100 coupon from when we bought our Bob-o-pedic mattress the year before (which I am NOT a fan of).

But I alwaaaaaaaays check Craigslist for stuff. It was a needle in a haystack, but I found a family selling their gorgeous antique china cabinet only a few blocks away -- for $100!!!! yes, $100! It's not perfect but for right now who cares, I just needed a place to display all of our wedding china/platters.

Ikea is good too but that place just drives me bananas, I am super claustrophobic and I don't like the layout inside, especially if it's crowded.

check your local paper for tag / estate / garage sales, now that it's getting nice out people are starting with spring cleaning.
