Inspired by Shamma- do YOU run your household?

Original post by nrvbrd

I will answer wholeheartedly without a doubt- YES!!!!!!

I am not saying my husband is a lazy b*a**s**t*a*rd or anything, but I pretty much do everything.
I mean he will wash the dishes, do some cleaning, but I am the one that makes sure things are in order. I cook, I do the grocery shopping, the laundry, etc etc. I am not complaining at all,but I so agree with what Shamma says about the woman having to do more and is looked upon to keep her household in order.

It is so funny, when DH and I went for pre marital counseling the pastor's wife said to DH, if you came into this house and it was a mess, who would you blame, me right and dH said yes.

I am absolutely responsible for the household. Recently it's been driving me crazy! Sometimes I feel like i am raising a child not in a marriage. I wonder though - do you think it's me? Maybe I'm too overprotective or controlling. I think it just matters more to me than it does to him.

I feel like this too, that I have a child around! His mother always cooked and the most he had to help out was with the outside when he lived at home but then again he does all the cooking during the week and food shops with me. But I also feel he makes a mess too, why should I do ALL the cleaning?

Roger said he was expecting a wife who did everything, when I asked him what would he do? his response was live I said I guess you married the wrong woman. I can understand if he was the only one working and I was at home, by all means, but if we both work, we both have to pitch in to make the household work as well.

I think if I let the house go and not say a word I think they would follow along with me, so I guess I am the director

No, we run it together. We share all of the cooking and cleaning. But there are some things he always does, like take out the garbage, and there are some things that I always do, like buy groceries.

now that i'm not working, i do 100% of it. even when i was working i did 95% of it.

his only 'set' chore is to bring the garbage to the dumpsters. i do everything else.

the saddest thing today was that i let my cleaning lady go. i can't justify the expense when i am not really working and am home at a decent hour. that will be a big adjustment for me!!

the cleaning lady does all the cleaning (thank God)... if the mood takes me, I do groceries...we split the cooking (though he's the better cook) ... I always do laundry - I don't like how he does it....we split the dry cleaning... we both do repairs (but he does the big stuff)... I do the tidying up and throwingout of old magazines....

sounds like I have it good -

He works and I stay home so I do most, shopping, laudry, cleaning and cooking and bills for me him and our two kids.
We are still in the process of finishing the house so he works on that at night and does the outside work (like shoveling snow ) and he takes out the garbarge....I don't do garbarge.

When we decided on what chores we would both cover, he messed up some of my things at the laundry and I wanted to do my own laundry, now he does not dry anything for me anymore, his motto is better safe than sorry

Oh, I don't let Keith TOUCH my clothes. He throws my work clothes in the dryer and shrinks them down to little kid sizes.

Our house is mostly 50/50, thanks to three years of training that I put in before we were married I do most of the cooking, but we both clean the house, we alternate food shopping (I go one week, he goes one week), and there is no WAY I would do his laundry since we are both working, so we do our own.

DH was totally spoiled by my MIL and had no idea how to chip in around the house, so I had to let him know right away that if we both work, he has to do his part. There are still places where he drives me nuts, I swear when he comes home he leaves a trail of stuff-I can literally tell what rooms he has been in. I really think he is totally unaware of it, b.c when I point out his shoes, jacket, wallet etc all over the house, he really looks surprised...like who put that there?!?

Roger did that to a couple of things, he felt so bad he reimbursed me to buy them back. You know I did not refuse it

Do you think your hubby would come to my house and teach DH how to do that? lol

we actually split things which is pretty cool. i do the cleaning and all the gift buying and card sending. i also keep track of the dates to remember and places we need to go. he in turn does alot of the cleaning and helps with the mailing of the bills

We are pretty split too - I do the bathroom, kitchen, most of the cooking, grocery shopping and gifts/cards for family & friends. Dh does the LR, BR, garbage, bills and car maintenance. He starts the laundry & I finish it.

Its pretty 50/50 in our home too.

My dh livd on his own for years before we got married since both his parents passed away so he got into a routine of doing things the way he likes them done. He will clean and I must admit hes great at it but it takes him hours!!!! He does dishes and does most of the outside stuff, especially in the winter (walks the dogs, runs to the store, etc.)

I do all of the cooking, a part of the cleaning (he refuses to clean the bathroom), and all the finances since he is horrible with money. So I guess you can say we both run the house. But when it comes to knowing what has to be done, he will never see it on his own and I will either have to ask or tell him. But I cant complain.
