Is this tacky? (TY related)

DH and I had several people who weren't able to make the wedding. Is it tacky to say something like 'We're sorry you weren't able to be at our wedding' ?

Thanks.

we had a bunch of people who couldn't make it - two couples had deaths in the family the morning of the wedding, so they weren't there.....we mentioned how nice it would have been to have them there in the thank yous.
it makes it more personal i think, and lets them know they were missed

wait...did they send gifts? i'm assuming so, right? since, why send a thank you if they didn't come or send a gift.

Not tacky at all - we had a LOT of regretfully declines since most of my family is in NJ and they thought LI was too far to travel for a wedding.... I can't really remember what I wrote, but I think we just thanked them for the gift and mentioned that we missed them at the wedding and hoped to see them soon. I was also worried about offending someone with my thank you notes - but after a certain point I just didn't care anymore

Nope, not tacky to me either. It lets them know they were missed.

Emily Post says to include a mention of them not attending and how they were missed. She also says to say something like ' we look forward to seeing you again soon, maybe we can do dinner?' or if they are OTT '....can't wait for another philly cheesesteak.' something personal.
