Just curious - Do you rent or own?

I chose 'other' b/c we are technically renting a house from my ILs. Most of you remember the stories of the drama they caused us. We won't have the chance to buy the house until DH's grandmother passes away, b/c there is a living will on it right now. DH's parents think they are doing us a huge favor by charging us $1200/month in rent which is not in ANY way going to be taken off the price of the house when the time comes for us to buy it. They are really screwing us over, but for now, we're dealing with it.

we are in contract for a house. we (DH actually) owned a condo before we met, which we sold in Nov. we've been living rent free (thank you!!) with DH's parents in the basement apt since then. as of feb 13th we will be homeowners.

to answer the question, own a co-op but then bc of dh's job was going to move to LI, looked for a bit and then end of december we put our name on a waiting list for a townhouse we really wanted so decided to wait a little to get a call for it. During that time DH said that if for work it makes it easier for me to stay in Queens then he is willing to stay in Queens and wouldnt mind at all. OK that was great until this week he tells me that his friends who live in that townhouse community place bought a house and are moving out of theirs and they are going to tell the ppl that we are on the waiting list and recommend us. Now im sitting here like 'HELLO we had decided to stay in queens and now we're back to moving' this is driving me nuts lol, i hate all this uncertainity and just want to feel settled instead of always having so much else to take care of before we are. I am kind of tired of this process right now, and lost all energy for it lol.

We lived with inlaws for 6 months! Now we are homeowners

Short sales are put on the market by the devil himself. lol It was a disaster and they let us sit on it for 3 months, took our 10K deposit and then decided they wanted more money after accepting our offer.

oh no that is horrible, sorry to hear that. Yeah i always wonder about foreclosures and the whole shortsale thing. I guess its one of those hit or miss situations. Well everything happens for a reason so guess that wasnt meant to be and youre better off

Foreclosures are better than short sales becaue the bank already owns it. With short sales, the bank is about to own it and there is so much drama involved.

we are living in the upstairs apt of my IL's rent free so I cannot complain Nah I am very grateful they are just a little much at times. But i love it, it is huge and has a new bathroom and ALOT of closet space.

but we hope in about 2-3 yrs we can buy. we dont want to rush I am still in my masters so i want to finish that and then think about it.

we rent a small one bedroom apartment. I really don't know if we'll ever be able to afford a house.

We own.....

We rent right now , but before the wedding we were living with his parents (rent free) but I couldn't take it any longer. Someone was going to get punched in the face, or thrown down the stairs lol so I made sure that after the wedding I found a place to move into. :)

We are comfy there for now, so I am in no rush to buy a home. We wouldn't have enough money to do that now anyway, but I hope within the next 5 years we are able to do something! That is our goal.

We rent our apartment from his parents but we pay full rent to them.

THe plus we get out of it is I dont have to go to a laundromat and they can watch my dog easily if needed.

Own a 2bdrm coop...I love it It's such a nice easy lifestyle...and we got 2 bdrm so we wouldnt have to run out if we had a baby. Also its an upper garden so we have a full finished attic that is the full size of the coop (900 sq ft) so we have a gym up there and PLENTY of storage which is also important bc a lot of coops dont.
