In and out of both places within two hours...Soc Sec first...only needed your old card and marriage certificate. No cost...you get it in two weeks...
DMV second, $5.00 charge, got to keep my old license until the new one comes in....only needed my old license and marriage certificate...

Re: Just got back from DMV and SS...
Thank you for an inspiring post!
I have been meaning to do this for a while but have dreaded spending the whole day in line. Maybe it won't be so bad after all!

Re: Just got back from DMV and SS...
For the SS office a passport is fine, i actually asked her if i could keep my old SS one and she said no (it had my cute grammer school signature on it)....oh well....My best advice to everyone is you don't need to take a whole day off. The SS opens at 9...take a half a day, be at the SS when it opens and then the DMV before 10 or 11 and you should be done by 12...i was amazed at how fast i went...i am sure it depends on which office you go to.
I find the DMV in Garden City to be the best and quickest.
I am now going to change my bank accounts and credit cards. I am doing my passport last since i am not traveling anywhere anytime soon and i have to send in an original copy to the passport place. Rather have everything done first.

Thats weird because the lady asked what proof i had besides marriage certificate. They should of been willing to take an old license, passport and/or birth certificate. I think you only need to fulfill those point systems they had for ID. They might of made an error just asking you for your SS card.
