Just out of curiousity

If your DH proposed without a ring, would you have said yes?

You can just take the poll if you don't want to share.

I voted yes - I was just ready to marry DH. . . I probably would have eloped if he asked me to

i have no idea.....if we were in a different financial situation than maybe i guess it wouldn't matter - but then again if he couldn't afford to get me an engagement ring then we obviously wouldn't be able to afford a wedding - so it wouldn't make sense to get married......unless it was like we just wanted to be married so badly so i got no ring and we did a civil ceremony at like city hall - but that scenario is really really hard to imagine....i'm trying to think of it realistically kwim?

ABSOLUTELY! I would have accepted a ring from a cracker-jack box!

actually DH proposed with a bracelet.. our parents didnt want any rings involved before the engagement ceremony..

If he couldn't AFFORD a ring and we couldn't afford to support ourselves - its one thing.

If he asked me on the spur of the moment when he realized he was MADLY in love with me ::insert hair flip here:: and wanted to marry me - I wouldn't have cared haha. I really wouldn't - I know a lot of girls might roll their eyes, but for me - it wasn't about the ring.

The engagement ring is a tradtition. We get rings because women thousands of years before us got rings. Does that mean we HAVE to have one to promise to marry someone?

i don't know.....i honestly think i would be insulted....im just trying to be honest.....i don't know, i can't realistically imagine the circumstances of why he wouldn't get me a ring - i mean its not the ring that is important but the fact that he worked so hard for it and took so much time trying to find something perfect for me - all that really meant a lot to me....he sacrificed a lot to get me a ring and there is meaning behind that......i don't know - its hard to say b/c things happened one way and i can't imagine it any other way

Even if he didn't have the money (not poor, but maybe saving for a house or the start of yourlives together) and said, 'I love you. let's get married, start our lives together and not spend the money in the bank on a wedding, but for a house'

i'd still say yes -- that is what it is all about the the two of us

Hahah!! I said NO!!! I would be expecting a ring honestly.. so I would ask about it.. I can't say that it would be a deffinate no forever,, but I would be wanting one.. It is the symbol of the commitment to me at least-

Re: Just out of curiousity

I would have. It's not about the ring, the ring is really just a symbol. Wanting to spend the rest of our lives together is mutual with or without a ring, IMO. That being said, the ring is a nice little added plus

of course not.. in the Indian culture, the bride and groom need not even be present for the engagement. It's usually the fathers that meet and exchange some token and the wedding date is announced and then rings are exchanged at the wedding. Or if the bride and groom are present at the engagement and rings are exchanged, there are no rings involved in for the wedding.

Our families are very orthodox with traditions and when our families finally met, they wanted a very traditional engagement and wedding ceremony.. so he gave me the ring on our enagement ceremony..

Re: Just out of curiousity

wanted to add, that DH never would have proposed without a ring- he said thats the first thing that everyone asks to see, and he would not have wanted me to feel bad that I didnt have one.

or maybe its a macho thing

I would have absolutely married him without the ring, he is who I wanted to spend the rest of my life with not the ring.

I would have said yes. An Engagement ring although beautiful (and i LOVE my ring) is something material. As long as we had $5 wedding bands to represent the symbolism of our love that is all that would matter to me.
Would I have been shocked like hummm this is different ?yes, but in the scenario Yelley gave I would do what I wrote above.

Re: Just out of curiousity

i dont know, i just cant picture this happening knowing how my DH is he wants everything to always be perfect for me, and he always tries to make me so happy - that's just part of how he treats me and part of why i love him so much - its not that he spoils me (b/c he doesn't and its not that), its just that he cares so much about my feelings and he truly wants me to be happy - so i cant imagine him not wanting to give me that fairy tale proposal....its just so hard to imagine.....so i really dont know what i would do or say....
