Ladies out there who were fearful and still got a tattoo?

Ladies out there who were fearful and still got a tattoo?

....how'd you do it?

I have wanted a tattoo forever---but my fear of needles and pain in general has stopped me.

My 16 year old niece called me last week to say that she got one on her stomach---and I realized that if she can do it---why should I be such a puss about it? I generally know what I want--just have to narrow down the particular design. But I'm still getting freaked out over the idea of it..

So those of you who have 1 or 2 and were really nervous or fearful of getting one--how'd you get over the fear?

I just did it. . .

I was PETRIFIED! I had such a horrible stomach the whole way there but I just told the guy and he said to just let him know and we could stop at any moment so I felt comfortable and he let me stop halfway through for a snack and a drink.

Towards the end of the tattoo I was looking through magazines picking out ANOTHER one LOL

i got over the fear because i just flat out had wanted one for SOOOOOO long.

If you go with a part of the body that is VERY fleshy - the pain is less. If you go near a bone - PAINFUL.

Both of mine are on the area above my boobs, but closer to my neck - hard to describe...(where your bra straps go).. You can see where they are in the pic below...VERY fleshy area.

The way to describe the pain.....like a constant cat scratch....it wasn't HORRIBLE...that i can tell you & i HATE needles!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah i'm so worrired about my stomach! all my nerves exhibit themselves in my tummy.

where'd you get yours? how bad did it hurt?

i was thinking of the ankle but i know that hurts like hell...maybe not for my first time out

This is what you do...pick the tattoo you want and the place you want to get it. Tell a friend of yours to make you an appt but not tell you when it is. Then they take your there for your appt without you knowing when or where you are going. THEN you will do it.

My ex did this to me, we went in bc he wanted to get another one and knew I wanted one, he let me pick then said ok I m going to make you an appt....NOOOO he asked if I could get it done right then and there. WHen they guy came out and asked if I was ready I think I wet my pants a little but I knew if I didnt do it I never would.

It really isnt bad at all-its annoying more then anything else and the pain isnt really pain-its more of an annoying pain feeling.

ETA: Both of mine are on my back just under my neck and between my shoulder blades-right on my spine

i had my two done at a place in the city - in the village. They are VERY careful about cleanliness & I liked that fact. I can grab the info when i get home later & share if you like!

Love the symbols Jess---what do they mean?

I'm like the only one among my siblings who doesn't have one!

mine is a medium size and its a tramp stamp LOL i got it when i was 18

My stomach ALWAYs acts up so it was perfect that I was kind of hunched over when he did it so it wasnt as bad, i think it would have been worse if i had to lay down and have my stomach exposed

the only thing is if you REALLY want it in a certain place then just get it there first because I got my first when i was 18 and i have been talking about going again for SEVEN years and never got back to it you know?

the smaller one means: creative, imaginative, dreamer & the larger one means: loyalty (my bff and i got the same one at her bachelorette party 2 years ago...we have been bff's for 21 years now).

The thing with symbols too is make sure you are getting them from a valid source. In the case of the place where we went - they had dictionaries laid out for you to select which ones you like...so you're not really getting the symbol for General Tsao's chicken instead of loyalty....

I was 17 and fearless when I got my first one It really REALLY doesn't hurt that bad. If it did, I wouldn't have so many. Its more annoying than it is painful. The one part of my body that did hurt alot was the back of my ankle (I have a full band around my ankle) but the other spots weren't so bad.

DH has flames from his ankle to his knee all around his leg - as well as a bunch of other tattooes
BUT he said that the back of the ankle was the worst part - he actually had to stop and go back for a second day bc he couldnt handle it while all the other places he was fine! that was enough to scare me away

haha my brother has one on his arm in chinese---its pretty big and he says it means 'Prophet, First son' which is what his first name's etymology means. he got it in TURKEY and i was like 'how do you know it doesn't say 'I ♥ c*ck' ?

he had a kid on his naval ship make sure thats what it said and the guy told him that it definitely meant what it said.

but i laugh my @ss off when i see this pic!

I really want one on my foot - a row of stars from my big toe to my ankle (starting large'ish and getting smaller) - but i'm PETRIFIED of the pain - since it's such a bony area!!!!

Re: Ladies out there who were fearful and still got a tattoo?

i now have 5. when i got my first two, i was young and fearless and didn't think anything of it. as i've gotten older, my fear of needles has def increased. i was petrified when i went to get my last one because of the size and location. it's on my upper right arm, almost a quarter sleeve, and the buzzing of the needle is pretty much in my ear the entire time. i can honestly say that the pain is not too bad. think about getting a long scratch, that's the worst of it. the outlines of my tatts def hurt a lot more than the filling in (at least for me).

if you need a really good place go to, we get ours done a kings avenue tattoo in n. massapequa. very clean place, very reputable artists. the miami ink crew has done guest appearances there.

don't be afraid!!! if you do decided to get one, once it's over, you'll be like, why was i so worried??
