Ladies who have indoor cats

DH & I are thinking of getting a kitten. We live in a 1 bedroom garden apartment and I wouldn't want the cat going outside to relieve him/herself; so we would have to have a litter box. (DH only had outdoor cats growing up, and I've had dogs)

My question is.... is the litter box going to smell up the apartment regardless of how often or what type of litter you use? Maybe someone could recommend a good kitty litter, b/c this is the only thing that's making me apprehensive of getting a kitty.

covered litter box is the way to go. we keep ours in the closet (with the door ajar) and we never smell anything.

Thanks Ladies!!!! Maintaining the litter box isn't more than I originally thought it would be!

We use the crystal blue self cleaning litter box . I SWARE by it!
