Leaving NY???

If you had an opputunity in 2 years to leave and have DH keep his NY salary would you leave your family so you can start a family in another state or would you stay in NY, we all know LI is really expensive and how it is so hard to live off of one persons salary. Advice please

i have better benefits than DH, but if he got benefits as good as mine, with his same NY salary, and we didn't have to move too far away... but i could be a SAHM (when the time came)... then i would seriously consider it. but if the job/move were more than 4 or 5 hours away, then i don't think i would.

it depends where..

i would consider it.. because it is too $$$ around here.. and i'd have to see the job opportunities for myself as well..

I probably wouldn't. I am very close with my family. Plus when we have kids, I want to be close to both our parents.

See I want to leave, it is to crazy around here. I want to raise my family and living on LI is so hard to do on one salary, Taxes here are rediculous. I was looking at houses here and the taxes were 9000 with the star program. It is absolutely rediculous.

See our parents cant help if we have kids, maybe babysit once a month but they cant help us everyday or for a couple days a week during work hours.

Re: Leaving NY???

We did!!! DH got a job in Ct last year 3 months after I got my DREAM JOB (a recruiter found him at his old company and begged for him to switch jobs)!!! I was on a waiting list for this job for 3 years

It was really frustrating but I knew I always wanted to be a stay at home mom and have a big beautiful house someday.

We were very lucky because his job offer was in CT and we were planning on moving to CT in a few years because my family was near by.

So we left LI and moved 3 weeks before the wedding and I left my dream job (I actually got hurt 3 weeks before the wedding and left early I was planning on working there until the end of the year)

But I got my beautiful house 3,500 square feet for under $300,000 in a beautiful area and we are planning on TTC next summer and I will be a stay at home mom!!

I had to sacrafice my dream job and leaving behind friends and the place where I lived for 8 years and even though certain days are tough in the end it was the best decision for me and my family!!

Weigh out the pro's and cons and follow your heart

BTW......THis is a pic of my house.....Not bad for 2 hours away from the island

i'm thinking about leaving NY w/o DH getting a job transfer!!

it's just too expensive to live here. it's ridiculous! my bro and sis moved to AZ but i don't wanna move that far. i love the east coast but i also love NY but it's just too much money here. i'd rather have a nice big house than a small apartment that was built in 1920!

it's def a tough decision. but do what's best for your own family. hey, my parents left their family and friends to move to another country!!! so really, it's up to you. but in my opinion, i would def move out of state.

move by me. LOL In Georgia on our house the taxes are only 2200. Also DH makes as much as many in NY make so I am able to be a house wife. I would totally recommend checking out other places.

Re: Leaving NY???

The taxes downstate really amaze me, we have friends in Westchester who pay $10,000 a year on a 900SF house on an acre.

We live between Albany and Saratoga and pay $1,200 on a 1800SF house on 3/4 acre lot, I'm sure we would make a little more if we lived downstate, but I don't think it is proportionate.

I would move if it meant I could be a stay at home mom, but I would like to be close enough that visiting for a long weekend or something would be easy.

I would move in a heart beat. Where are you thinking of moving?

In a heartbeat!

I would move again in a heartbeat, but DH doesn't want to leave the town he grew up in never mind the state! I would rather have a house than an apartment and we can't afford to live in the Plainview area, the taxes are too high and the houses are way to expensive.
I'm working on it so we'll see.

If for the most part things were the same we would move. It seems like just about everywhere is cheaper then NY so if its a long trip away from family you can afford to save and come and visit more often. I would go.

Were planning to leave NY in 2 years but we can't decide where to move. We both hate to get huge pay cut...
