Living with In-laws...

Well, we are moving in with them on Saturday... we are trying to save a bit of $$$ by staying with them until the end of the year. Anyone else doing this? Any advice?

Ugh, I am so not ready to do this!!!

Mu husband and I bought a house and my parents live in the apt below us. So far its worked out, we have had a few 'scuffles' but all in all...its a good thing.

It really depends on what kind of relationship you have with your In-Laws.

Good Luck!!

we almost did...but we had a privacy issue...I would make sure that you set some ground rules up and make sure that everything is understood

Re: Living with In-laws...

I'll soon be moving into my husband's house, which is right next door to his mother's house. The houses are so close, you can barely drive a car between them. It's scarey. Not because I don't like my MIL. Actually, she's very cool. But I just believe that newlyweds need to be aLONE to get to know each other and start their lives together. Having family so close by, no matter how great everyone gets along, is a recipe for conflict one way or the other.

Also, she's used to just going back and forth between the houses like nothing. Often she sees my DH come home from work and his phone rings as soon as he's in the house. Sometimes she lets herself in to do the dishes! Yikes! I don't know how to tell him that I don't want that to continue once I move in. I'm sure I'm worried over nothing though.

What I'm going to do if things get tough is keep reminding myself that it's only temporary and it's for a good reason.

I'm also a little concerned because I work at home, and my MIL is retiring in a few months. So I will be there all day---and so will she. I'm concerned about privacy and having my work time respected. I'm sure it will be fine, but it's definitely got me concerned.

Hugs to everybody who's doing this! Maybe we need to start a Living with In Laws thread!
