Mickey Rourke is headed to the Academy Awards both as a nominee and a grieving pet owner after the death of his 17-year-old Chihuahua, Loki.

A representative for Rourke, Judy Woloshen, said the actor's beloved dog died Monday night.

Says Rourke: 'Loki is deeply missed but with me in spirit. I feel very blessed that she fell asleep peacefully in my arms.' Rourke, who's having a career comeback with his acclaimed performance in 'The Wrestler,' was especially close to Loki and is a longtime owner of chihuahuas.

Rourke thanked all his dogs -- living and dead -- after winning the Golden Globe for best actor last month, saying 'sometimes when a man's alone, all you got is your dog.'

That is sad. I heard this earlier. It is always hard to lose a pet. Loki was 18 (human) years old!

It is amazing that some of these animals last to these old ages
Sorry to hear about your dog!

My inlaws took amazing care of their dog, toward the end of his life they did everything to make him comfortable and gave him the best treatments they could. It is amazing that a dog can live that long, she said when she got him she made a deal with him that he had to live til 20, and let me tell u if he didnt get cancer he would of lived that long he was in amazing shape

Aww, sorry about their dog. Sounds like he lived a good, long life. It is so heartbreaking. My mother's dog just had to have surgery to have some cysts removed. Then they found baby teeth that they pulled. When he was carried in the house, my mother said he almost looked dead...he went through the mill. I think he's about 12 now. His back looks like a patch work quilt...he has two big diamond shaped spots where they shave him. She's been so worried...that's her baby and is such good company for her.
