Have you heard about this??


Opie and Anthony were really going off about this town. They even had callers tell facts and share their expereinces about this town.

Is it really that bad??? I have never heard of it before.

Mastic...Shirley-They are basically next to each other. They arent the greatest of areas but I do know there are a few spots in both towns that are not so bad

this caused a drama thread on LIF when it came out. honestly, i don't see what the big deal is---he made some comment--who cares. people got their panties in a bunch over this -- when shock jocks these days say things so much worse. and ironically the original caller that this was all about---later all the hoopla--told the news she wasn't even offended at all and was mad they suspended him.

people gotta learn to lighten up with all this 'i'm so offended' crap...it was a joke...big deal.

sorry this turned to a vent--but i really hate people who overuse the 'offended' terminology. and so many people with this story and on LIF tossed it around so much it made me


ETA: the Mastic/Shirley area has always been associated with a bad stigma of trailer parks and white trash.....its almost a joke on Long Island. doesn't mean its totally true--but hey lets be real--PLENTY of other places have negative stigma---just goes with the territory

I was listening to O and A also go after Mastic yesterday but I think every town has rundown areas. Where I used to live Levittown always got hit bad but I just thought it was funny and didn't go all out balistic like these folks did. Towns out east are rural so I guess they think that trailers go along with that.

i could see people getting offended who live in mastic only because it's what some people can afford. Like anywhere else there's good parts & bad parts...just more of the bad lol..Honestly I think Gordon Heights and the bad areas of bellport are a lot worse - but yes - mastic definetly gets the stereotype of a 'ghetto' on LI lol...and honestly, when i worked out there - i never went to the pathmark by myself lol. i dont think it's THAT bad...my brother lived in a better part of it for a little while, and like i said, i worked out there as well. but i agree with u melissa....why do people have to get there panties in such a bunch about it?? especially when ur living somewhere that u KNOW has a stereotype when it's name is mentioned??? its just so much easier to shrug it off and say 'well i live there - not so bad - super affordable' rather than going off on a crazy 'i'm offended' speech! i grew up in selden on a 'leave it to beaver' block and absolutely loved my highschool, my neighborhood, my childhood......but some of my friends who lived in smithtown or port jeff have their own mindsets whatever lol. to each is own i guess...some people are just closedminded - others supersensitive. just dont get it lol.

it's ridiculous! & O & A picked up on the story and went off on Mastic b/c they were pissed that something as stupid as this even gained public knowledge and that the jock had to apologize on air.

yea - i think this has to do with the fact that mastic has a TON of 'sober' and 'safe' houses....ie: houses with people on probation & just out of prison..

With a ame like Mastic it is hard to believ it is a bad area. It sounds like Mystic and that makes me think it would be nice. Like wouldn't it be nice to go sailing in Mystic. I think if town are going to be rundown they should have names that reflect this. No one would be offended if we said Crapville was crappy.

I'm not wearing any panties so what would you say i have all in a bunch?

Although yes, there are a few areas (mainly those on the water) which are nice, Mastic is not exactly known to be a great area. But the Taco Bell in Shirley is awesome

Yet, lets call a spade a spade. There are a good number of sex offenders and Section 8 homes. it is not Sagaponack by any means (the most expensive zip in the USA, a town over from Bridgehampton).

Yet, i find Bellport, Gordon Heights, B-wood, Wyandanch, etc not to be favorites here either.

BECAUSE I KNOW A WELL OFF TOWN ON THE NORTH SHORE OUT EAST THAT HAS 2 TRAILOR PARKS. THERS OTHER TOWNS AS WELL THAT ARE CONSIDERED NICE GOOD AREAS THAT HAVE TRAILOR PARKS AS WELL.
