Re: maybe this has been done before

When we got married, we agreed to wait 6 months to start TTC -- we said we'd start 'in the new year.'

As the time got closer, I thought DH was going to say he wanted to wait a little longer, but he was still on board and we stopped using protection. I'm glad we talked about it before we got married and that he we were able to agree. I feel very lucky.

But then again I'm also 31 already (I was 30 when we got married) and DH knew it would be best health-wise not to wait too long.

When we got married we said not before like 8 to 10 years, if ever. And honestly even though EVERYONE around us is ttc, preggers, or had a baby recently....we are both TOTALLY selfish and not even close to having such a big responsibility. So I kinda feel where your DH is coming from.

We had discussed this before we got married and we were both on the same page. I'm not getting any younger (I'm 30) and neither is DH (29... I know, i'm a cougar!) So we decided that we would try on our honeymoon.

If you are younger, it's different but when you know you have a few years of healthy trying you kind of put that first because you don't want to look back and regret it.

Why not just say 'whatever happens, happens?' There's never a right time to have a baby, no matter what.

I completely agree. It's scary how much this is totally true for us too.
I'm turning 30 this year... DH is 29 (I guess by your standards... I'm a cougar too ). It's true for me too though... being 30 for me pushed us more to start trying on the HM. We knew we were 'older' and it was important for us to have kids... we'd rather do that as young as we can. We did have this discussion before we got married as well and we agreed on the HM as our official first TTC month.

I wanted to be married with kids by like 23... haha. So I'm behind on my time schedule... majorly! We are trying though... so it's out of our control... I guess whatever happens happens.

see... I told you that was scarily my story!!

Re: maybe this has been done before

I am starting to get baby fever... too much stalking on the TTC board on LIF! DH has a very rigid plan in mind: house, dog, baby. We're working on the house part now, but I'm getting nervous as we will both be 31 this year. Once we get the house, I'm going to have to start seeing if I can sway him to try a little sooner. I'd do it before the house thing if we didn't live in MIL's house - no way i'm risking having a baby living in this place!

sort of...i would have gotten knocked up our wedding night if it were up to me...DH has baby fevor too but he just wont admit it....
he thinks we compromised on waiting to start start trying next year, so he is not budging!

it makes me soo mad like really, what is a few months earlier going to do???

i think DH and I are pretty much in the same page. We do not want to start trying until at least more than a year. We just bought a house and I think all our money going towards that is all we can afford right now! Don't worry it will happen for the both of you when the time is right.

Re: maybe this has been done before

i think what worked for DH and I was that we looked at our short term and long term goals as a couple and as individuals, and we asked ourselves if we would be able to achieve these goals if there was a baby in the picture. before getting married, we didn't think those goals were possible w/ a baby. however, we have further reflected and realized that all of our goals as more in reach than we thought.

so yeah, think about what you would like to accomplish first and if having a kid will or will not prevent you from reaching those goals...it might change your perspective! HTH

Re: maybe this has been done before

I am on the same page as you, except it hasn't really caused conflict in our home. DH and I agreed to start trying after being married for two years, but I think we are both revisiting that a bit. I would be happy to try tomorrow, but realize that I have to wait for DH to truly be ready as well. The reasons he isn't ready are completely valid and, if I'm honest, he's totally right ... but at the same time ... I want to make babies!

So we are sort of up in the air right now. We talk about it a looooot and DH is a great communicator so it doesn't make us fight or argue. We just discuss things and take it one day at a time.

I'm sorry this has you so upset though. I can totally relate to how you feel.

Re: maybe this has been done before

DH & I agree that for us waiting a few years is the best option. We still live in a small apartment, I am not 100% happy at my job & DH currently only has a job for the summer. So we obviously do not have the space or income needed for a child.

Meanwhile, all of my friends are married & already have a kid or two. So some days that makes me want to TTC right away, but DH is set in the plan that we made before we got married & I know that its best to stick to it.

OMG CAN I HAVE HIM THAN LOL

I DONT THINK NECESSARILY IT IS 'OLD' I JUST THINK IT IS A NUMBER THAT PEOPLE ALWAYS HAVE STUCK IN THEIR MIND

I AM 25 NOW AND ALWAYS SAID I WOULD NEVER WANT A KID PAST 30 - IDK WHY IT IS JUST THE WAY I FEEL.

30 is not old... for the earth. I don't feel 30 but I know that I already can't do the things I did when I was 25.

My cousin's husband has 30 years on the job and I asked him when he is going to retire because he has so much time invested. He told me probably never since his kids are 12 and 10.
