Medical question...anyone have a dermoid cyst on ovary?

I'm very upset... I had an annual exam the other day and she thought I might have fibroids and wanted me to have a sonogram to check...so I had the sonogram today and the tech said it looked like a dermoid cyst on the left ovary which would probably have to be removed by laproscopic surgery :( Of course I don't know anything until I talk to the doctor tomorrow... and I've been researching online and it doesn't seem like it will affect pregnancy issues in the future, but just wondering if anyone has gone through this or know of anyone who has? Thanks ladies... Being a woman just ****s...

I had the same thing 2 years ago and had the surgery! It doesn't affect your ability to get pregnant!

What did the surgery involve? How long was it? How about the recovery and scarring??

Re: Medical question...anyone have a dermoid cyst on ovary?

The surgery is about 2 hours long (I think). The scarring is very minimal! Because it’s laporascapy, they only make 3 very little incisions: one in you your belly bottom that will not be visible afterwards, and 2 more: one on each side of the lower abdominal. It’s just 2 dots that will fade away. They make it low enough that it can’t be visible even if you are wearing a very revealing swimsuit! Don’t worry, it’s a very common procedure! You will be home the same day and can go back to work in 3-4 day! No sex, lifting or any kind of exercise for 2 weeks after though!

Re: Medical question...anyone have a dermoid cyst on ovary?

My user name kitten79 still doesn't work!!! Anyway, just to update on my original post... I had the laparoscopic surgery done to remove the cyst on my left ovary...they found another on the right side when they were in there! Both the size of small grapefruits!! Well it's now 4 weeks later and I still have not gone back to work :( I feel miserable...had to go back into the hospital for five days with an awful infection... have horrible gas pains and diarrhea since...it's been awful and I am just so sick of feeling like this. I want to feel normal again :( Every doctor I go to has no idea what is wrong with me or what I should do. So unfortunately I think that maybe the 'harsher' surgery would have been better than what I'm going through now with the 'easier' surgery....

Re: Medical question...anyone have a dermoid cyst on ovary?

I had the same thing and had the surgery when I was 19. It did not affect anything long term, although the surgery was painful. I was back on my feet in about 2 weeks, fully recovered in about a month.

I hope you feel better soon!
