My FIL passed away!

Hi Guys -

My FIL passed away this morning. He had been sick for awhile.

I think I am doing everything I can for DH, but if any of you have gone through this and have any tips on how I can be extra supportive, please share them!

Thanks,
Christine

I'm so sorry...just be there to listen and love him. I wish I could help more...but just being there for him will help a lot, I think.

Re: My FIL passed away!

I just went through this in May. It's really tough. All you can do is be there to listen and love your husband. I went to his parents house and cleaned and cooked for the family.
Whatever you can do to make it easier for them, is really the best thing.
You can FM me if you want to talk.

Oh no I'm so sorry

It's so hard to know what someone needs to help them grieve. Sometimes it's so they can cry privately if trying to be strong for everyone else. Sometimes it's something to take their mind off their grief; like humor. Sometimes it's just to listen.

You know him best, I'm sure you'll be as supportive as you can in his time of need. I'm really so sorry for your loss.

Re: My FIL passed away!

I just got your email - I'm so sorry for your loss I didn't go through this with DH, but when I lost my dad 10 years ago, it definitely helped for me to get out of the house and do something unrelated to my dad's passing (going to see a funny movie, that kind of thing). I would say just be there, ready to listen if he wants to talk but recognize that he might not want to at first. Sometimes, people need to process a loss and grieve that loss internally before being able to talk about it with other people.

If there's anything at all that we can do just let me know

I'm so sorry

This is such a horrible thing to have to go through, but your DH wil probably be so happy to have you by his side keeping him strong.

My grandmother passed away last year and my DH (then FH) was there with me every step of the way and I couldn't have gotten through it without him.

And I am sorry for your loss as well, this is your family now.

I'm so very sorry. I haven't been through this before, but my DH's mother did have cancer, and I found that it was best to just be there for him to listen and talk about it, and take his mind off of it for the times he needed that instead.
