My heart is very heavy....

Original post by Shamee

You all know my problems with my husband and his family and how we've tried very hard to work through our issues. This weekend the problems in our life escalated and I was told by him (after several days of him pounding on me emotionally - nit-picking, brow-beating me and micro managing everything I do) that he can say or do whatever he wants to me and I can't do a thing about it because I'm trapped with him because of the house. Literally, I'm a 'convenient' prisoner. He also told me that the puppy he bought me for my birthday last year is only mine, contingent on the survival of the relationship.

And that was it. I hit my limit with him.

Sunday I'm moving out and after I return from my trip to Ohio at the end of the month, I'll make a decision about whether I want to move ahead with an attorney. I can't do it right now because I feel emotionally drained and I need to regroup because it's going to be one hell of a fight.

I feel like I'm losing everything, but at the same time I'm gaining back my self respect because no one thing (house, etc.) is worth selling yourself out and being miserable. He's a typical Jeckyl and Hyde. Sweet and considerate in one breath and then intentionally cruel and insensitive in the next. Plus he has OCD that's escalating out of control and he won't seek help for it. He doesn't understand why I'm upset, it's like he completely forgot what he said and everytime something like this happens, I lose another piece of myself. I can't go on like this. I'm working three jobs to juggle the bills and although he works, he contributes very little to the overall expenses of the house. His car broke down and I offered him up my brand new car and now my truck is gone (sold) and I'm left with the option of fighting him for my car back or letting it go and getting another one (provided my credit is decent enough to get another one). I'm carrying the mortgage, the car payments, several loans, credit card bills, insurance (health, home, cars) and NOW I need to get another car?

I don't know what else to say. I don't even know why I'm putting this out there other than I can't speak to my family about it because they will not be surprised in the least - they think I should have called it a day years ago and my friends are tired of hearing about it. I feel like I'm screaming inside and I can't say a word and a tear hasn't been shed.

Sharon....You do NOT have to explain to anyone here why you have made the decision you have...

while my heart is heavy with you...in the next breath it is happy that you are ready to make your life better...

I agree with the info that Michele gave you...joint accounts are very easily closed by the other party...but money is not worth happiness...(I learned that in employment)

and your dog is your dog...

I am so sorry to hear that you had to go through any of this. It sounds like the move you are about to make is the best thing for you. I agree with what Michele said as well. See a lawyer right away even if it is just for advise you can find out what you need to do to protect yourself financially and find out the best way to proceed with any action you need to take. Remember we are all here for you whenever you need to talk.

Hugs to you

I am so sorry that you are going through this. I will pray for you and I hope that everything will be okay. You are such a strong woman for getting up and leaving. For some woman it takes many years for them to get that kind of courage. Stay strong. I know it will be hard.

Re: My heart is very heavy....

Sharon, I'm so sorry to hear of your situation. I just wanted to say that you should be so proud of yourself for making such a difficult decision for your own happiness.
As someone has already said, I would talk to your family and friends. Even if they aren't suprised, they love you and care about you and wouldn't want you to be going through this without them.

Wishing you brighter days

Shamma, I love your two sayings. I sent the second one to my cousin once when she was going through a hard break up.

I am so, so, so sorry to hear what you've been going through... I think you are making the right choice by moving out... if you are not ready to see an attorney yet, don't... little steps...

'whenever one door closes, another one opens'

I truly hope things work out for you...

Sharon I am so sorry for you. You are a very brave woman and it takes sooo much to cut the cord and you should be sooo proud of yourself - what you did was the hardest thing to do. I can honestly tell you that the sun will shine for you again, even though you are going through a dark time now. I send you dozens of hugs of support!

Re: My heart is very heavy....

Thank you guys for all of the support. All day I've been weepy and weak, feeling like my whole world is falling apart. I'm supposed to work tonight and I don't even want to. I was going to go roller skating after that but I don't feel like doing anything. I tried talking to my mom but I ended up hanging up on her because she was missing the big picture altogether - talking about all the things I musn't forget to pack, like my niece's crib! *** am I going to do with a crib right now, like that's the priority here. I just feel like crawling into a whole because for me there's no turning back and the road ahead is uncertain at best.

Shamee, I don't think there's anything I can say to make the hurt go away... My heart is heavy for you.

I give you alot of credit for having the courage to say enough. You are a brave and strong woman.

My first marriage failed terribly after almost five years. It took everything out of me to just pick myself up, dust myself off and move on. But move on I did, and you will too. It seems impossible now, but trust me!

The road is uncertain, but I promise you that the uncertain does not = bad. Scary- yes, but bad, no. Sometimes when you take a different turn in life, the road is soooo much nicer and sweeter. That is my life story. I took a few 'wrong' turns, but once I believed in myself my life has been nothing but good. You CAN do this!!!!! Tell yourself that every single day.
