My Lunch Experience - RANT

Original post by dimples092907

Just met my family at lunch at a local pizzeria in Syosset on Jericho Turnpike.

My two sisters each with their two children and my mom. The two little ones are 2 and 2 1/2. The two little ones were getting a little loud so my sisters were telling them to be quiet and they did listen, but after a little they were talking and getting loud again, but remained in there seats. Of course people around were getting annoyed, but the kids were not crazy loud, yelling or screaming, it was more of excitement to see each other.

Someone must have complained to the waitress, which is fine, but the waitress decides to go in my 2 1/2 nephew's face and point her finger at him saying ' You need to stop screaming, this is a restaurant.' and walks away.
Are you kidding me getting in a kid's face like that. My sister was so mad. The waitress should have said something to her as the parent. The waitress comes back into the dining room and we stop her and say ' We didn't know this wasn't a family restaurant'. Her answer 'This is a family restaurant, it's not Chucky Cheese' and proceeds to get in my sisters face and says 'You need to control your kid'. We ask for the manager and she walks away.

I follow her back and ask who her manager is and she tells me he is over there behind the counter. I look and there are 3 men behind the counter. I say 'which one is he' and she says 'I am not afraid of you'. I say 'I don't care, I'm not looking for you to be afraid of me, I would like to know which one of the three is the manager'. She tells me his name and says 'go say what you want to him' so I said 'I will'.

In the meantime, my mom and sister are already telling the manger that she is very nasty and if someone has a problem, she should have told my sister, not yell at a child. I tell the manager that the waitress was very nasty and yelled at a child instead of the telling the parent people were complaining. I tell him I go to the one in Seaford all the time and never had problems there and didn't realize this was a different type of restaurant. He tells me, 'Please come back again, she will only be here a few more days'.

Sorry you lost us as customers.

i don't have any kids but i feel the only people that should say something to the kids are the parents. u don't know if there's something wrong with the kids. i feel its the parents place to say something and nobody else

Did she talked to either of your sisters first before doing that?

I agree its uncalled for for her to do that and reprimand the kids herself-she could have chosen a different route and spoken to your sisters and Im sure they would have done something about it. Its not often that a parent realizes how other people around them are being affected by their child unless they are over that line (which obviously your sisters children werent) so I can understand her coming over to say something-but there was no reason for her to say anything to the kids nor was it her place

But I also have to add (no no kids here) that when DH and I go out, I WILL say something to parents whose children are excessively loud, running around or being just plain obnoxious. We went to the Outback one night-not high class or a kids restaurant-and they had tables pushed together for grandmas birthday, the kids were playing tag around their table but everytime they passed ours they bumped themselves off ours.........about 10 minutes later I finally stuck my arm out to stop the kids and told them to sit, then turned to the parents and told them that kids will be kids but running arounda restaurant interrupting other peoples meals is rude and ridiculous. If your children cant be controlled then you need to take them out to the car until they can behave or dont take them and get a babysitter.

Im not saying this specifically towards you-its more of a vent

ITA if DH and I were out and kids were being out of control it is annoying, but the kids were in their chair the whole time and when my sisters told them to be quiet they were, it was just every now and then they got excited and were loud, but not screaming or anything. I would be the first to tell my sisters also, but they are always on top of kids to make sure they do not bother other people. This was the first approach from this waitress and that is why we were all shocked. She should have said something to my sister and we honestly would have walked outside to talk because we had already finished our meal at this point.

Re: My Lunch Experience - RANT

maybe this waitress was having a bad day, AND knew she was losing her job being that 'she was only gonna be there a few more days'???

who knows - either way, she could've said something NICELY to ur sisters. it just infuriates me when people are just plain mean - because there is no need for it. I work in a fancy schmancy cosmetic boutique and sometimes people come in with out of control kids that are running around the registers, picking up products, etc....even THEN i dont reprimand the children....i'll nicely say something to the parent OR be silly and say something like 'uh oooh - be careful with that..u don't wanna get a boo-boo'...and usually the parent gets the hint. but NEVER would i point in a kids face and be rude about it....OR be rude to a parent... it's just not neccesary. people are a-holes and she's obviously loosing her job for a reason...
